The mid 15s to 50s shift so crazily. I wonder if people realize at the time of their review that the beer they are tasting may not be rated as high in just 6 months time? Does the beer now suck that it sits 40 spots lower? Recipes don't generally change, some 4-8 years later.. One should compile a "was once a top 250 beer, now I'm a shelf turd" list, so I know what to buy on the cheap.

Abyss for example was at 15 this time last year. Currently it sits anywhere from 47 to 55.. Price point has not changed ($17-$22). I feel people still buy great beer at any given price. We over hype stuff WAY too much that has little bearing on the overall scale of craft beer sales. FBS was at 18, now its at 40 just a year later.. Score has increased from 4.51 to 4.52, yet dropped.. Competition plays a large part. We have a great opportunity here. Looking solely at rank #s is quite crazy though

It is fun to talk about

I asked my dad to check if there was any Three Floyds around, I'm in NC he's in Pa, the guy he asked never heard of 3F. We've all been Noobs, but many years ago on that one.

No, no. Doesn't it make sense to divide American IPAs into 4 or 5 different styles depending on hops varietals?

No, what it usually means is an inflammatory topic followed by a link that directs one to a page full of ads (and "story") thus generating income for whoever posted said story. In my opinion this term was misused in that context. But that's just me.

I think it could go either way. One could argue that in last 5 years there has been an exploding "local" and special release movement that wasn't as prevailent in the past, so there is a lot of great beers now being made only in small distribution footprints or small batch limited releases.

Or you could go the negative approach and say beer snobbery, hard to get beer eltism, causes group think into making whalez the best rated.

I'll go with the glass-half-full thought and say its more of the first thing I mentioned.
