Half way through '14 now. Meh. Maybe the aforementioned dip in quality every year is the culprit. Maybe my memory glorified something that was only OK to begin with. Or maybe I've had so many awesome beers over the past year that Abyss just doesn't cut it any more.

It's not bad, but it's kind of a whole bunch of nothing. I'd rather spend less on a 4-pack of Dragons Milk or regular Yeti

Half way through '13. There really isn't any difference from the '14. Maybe a bit more chocolate. Barrel really doesn't show in either. Or maybe I've become accustomed to strong barrel flavors from Avery and Dry Dock.
Either way, I see no reason to age this beer, it only takes up shelf space.
I'm still indifferent on the taste. Taste v price = I think I'm done with not just Abyss but Deschutes altogether. I don't even care about their Anniversary beers and they do nothing else that interests me at all.

Half way through '12 and there's no real difference between this and '13.
Aging does nothing for this beer.

If someone gave me this beer on a blind taste test I'd say it was a good stout. But once I was told this was barrel aged and how much it cost, I'd say no way.

I went into this vertical expecting to come out of it with an Abyss defense. But I found myself ending up on the opposite side. Though it isn't bad, there isn't anything especially good about it either. It tastes like a good stout. I don't need to wait a year and spend $17+ on something that is OK. I can get badass on a daily basis for less.

Wish I saw your posts 2 days ago when I was on the fence. Gotta complete those verticals tho.

That's disappointing. I have an 09 through the new 2014. Who knows, maybe the infected 09 will be the highlight of my vertical.

Had 11 and 12 tonight and was a bit of a let down. Not bad by any means, just nothing special. Preferred the 12 over the 11. I'm still a Deschutes fan, but slowly realizing how good we got it.

    This.
    And THIS.

But still deserves respect. I'd still drink it over Dragon's Milk or Yeti. Now give me Liquid Brain anyday over Abyss, but keep in mind you're still comparing a full barrel aged beer to a 1/3 one.

I still remember the day when Storm King ruled the top 100.

Wow I just passed up a 2014 abyss for $29. I know WFM has gone up in price the last year but this is nuts.

    Enjoy

Looks like this is sitting around lots of places, but Superior Liquor has quite a bit of it at 16.99. They also still have Tweak and some other gems...
