I know coffee fades, and the longer you sit on it the less coffee you get. That said, how does this beer hold up with say a year or two on it? I only got a 4 pack, but pondering if I need to drink them all relatively soon.

Is it worth saving one or two to put together a 3 year vertical or so? Both years I've bought this previously, it was only one or two bottles...and they were downed quickly.

I know people do KBS verticals, so im guessing its pretty good.

I actually have two BCBCS from last year... i meant to open them already bc i love coffee forward stouts, but I'm assuming theyre still tasty.

I heard recently that 2012 BCBCS was tasting incredible right now.. I think there is a mid point where the beer is in an odd point, but a couple years worked well for atleast that iteration. So drink it now and drink it in a few years and see which you like!

Just had a '13 the other night, still a coffee bomb of deliciousness.

I had a 13' last week as well and while it was still tasty I much preferred it fresh. My vote is to drink up now if you like that coffee flavor.

I have aged several coffee stouts and it's always nice to save one just to see how the coffee blends in as it ages.

I've always found Intelligentsia's coffees to be a bit on the bright/acidic side, and this quality was the first thing I noticed in the 2014 BCBCS. I don't plan to cellar my two (measly :stuck_out_tongue:) bottles of BCBCS for too long, but I do plan to let them rest for a month or two to see if I can catch them at a point where the acidity has faded a bit but the coffee flavor is still front & center.

This is true, had 2012 not too long a go and it's mind blowing! Also had 2011 the same night and the age really shows on this but not in a good way. Still a great beer but either too much age or 2012 is just the tits.

I have not aged the coffee as I like it too much to wait to drink it:grinning:
I do age the regular one and like it better old by a long shot.

Fresh is great...coffee doesn't do great aging. To me it adds a peppery taste. I'm cellaring a 2013 but will not age my last 2014.

Had a 2008 in April as the first in a vertical with 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012. It was a unanimous favorite. If you have the opportunity and patience to cellar correctly do it.

Did two 13's this past week...incredible beer!! I do feel the coffee has faded quite a bit. I get tons of soft, chewy, chocolate fudge drenched in bourbon...simply amazing. Glad I drank 'em because it's all about the experience, and it was fantastic!

This beer is much better fresh in my opinion. Had a '13 a few weeks ago and thought it was horrible. I would focus on doing a vertical of regular BCS. It's a much better beer to age.

'14 BCBCS fresh is amazing and I can not see it getting better, its just to good right off the bat. Best vintage since '11

Dont. Its by no means a terrible beer old, but what makes it amazing is the massive amount of coffee flavor, and you lose a lot of that.

For me, 2013 didn't holdup well after a year. But that's just me. I was very impressed by this years coffee flavor. I plan drinking my bottles between now and March. Enjoy what you like!

Agree with all said here regarding the coffee fading. Quite dramatically so, in my opinion. If you don't love the coffee flavor, then maybe some age will improve it a bit to your liking. I've had 2 years of it side by side a few times and the newer version always won out in my opinion and that of our group. For whatever that's worth.

I LOVED this year's coffee. But I also loved the 2013 BCBS I had this month. Did you have the 14.2% abv version for 2013? Apparently it's a lot smoother and silkier than the 14.9% 2013 version.

That's a good question! I did not look to see on the night I drank it. I may have a pic of it on my phone, so I'll have to look.

The Rwandan blend this year is on the money!

Thats good news, Ill be trying my first ever bcbcs around X-mas time and its a 2013 bottle. Im not usually a fan of strong coffee flavors so it sounds like its the perfect age for my tastes. Ive had alot of 2013 bcbs (14.2abv) and bcbbw and still have a bunch left and its drinking fantastic with a year on it.

I just had 2013 BCBCS on draft and it was really good. The coffee wasn't as bright as I've experienced in similar beers, but it was still prominent and damn tasty
