This has been on my mind for some time. King Henry is the only beer I would consider trading for right now. This is due to the fact that I can't afford frequent trading and also because trying KH became kind of a personal goal when my friend in Chicago couldn't find a single bottle when it was released for us to split down the road. I put up an ISO for an IP trade in chicago looking for this and a bottle of BCBCS some time ago but nothing really came of it. What I really want to know is should I just let it go?

Based on my gots (http://beeradvocate.com/user/beers?ba=Creetoper&view=G), none of which are off-limits, if any of you guys could impart a little wisdom upon me that would be really great. Basically I just wouldn't want to have to trade some silly amount like multiple $18+ items to get a single bottle, regardless of how good it's supposed to be.

From what I have seen in the trading section, I'd say no.

I let go trying to trade for Rare, Vanilla, and KH. I realized I essentially have to send out $90 of Beat B5 for a $12 KH or $180 worth of it for a $50 Rare. Not worth it. I'm satisfied with KBS.

It would actually be cheaper for me to buy a bottle of Rare on ebay then trade for it here on BA. ( not going to do that either ) Crazy huh?

Probably not outside someone being generous. Trade for an Abacus instead, much easier, nearly as good.

I agree with all of the statements so far. It has become so hard to trade for that it pretty much isn't worth seeking it out.

BA Blackout, BORIS Royale, and KBS would be your best bet but like everyone else has said KH seems to be going for a lot these days.

One reason I don't care about trading for KH, so many people say Sucaba is almost as good or good enough to not justify the difference. I have a bottle in my fridge just waiting for the right time now, which I got for not too much. OP would be able to get that with his gots.

I think you have a number of beers in your Gots list that would constitute a very fair trade for King Henry -- especially if you combined a few.

Unfortunately, King Henry isn't really going for fair-trade value in the ISO:FT forums. You'll have to find someone willing to do you a favor.

I've only got one bottle left myself, and I intend to hang onto it for a while. Not necessarily for trading - I only trade once or twice a year now. But I'm sentimental. I always have a hard time letting go of my "last" anything.

I know of a bottle that was received as an extra recently so generous BA's are not hard to come by. The reality is, it's a one-off beer that has a mighty hype train, aided no less by threads like this. You do have some beers that would get it done, but you'll have to give up a couple bottles and maybe be a bit patient.

FWIW, I've had King Henry and Sucaba. Although I didn't do a side-by-side, I can't say that King Henry was appreciably better.

Once you get to "World Class" heights, hype is what tends to seperate the pack. In reality, they're probably equally good. Take two beers that would get a blind 4.5 rating. If one has 800 bottles and the other has 18,000 bottles, the former will get pushed to 4.7 or more. It's just the reality of beer hype.

They are crazy..... I don't like adding fuel to a hype train, but this beer is worthy of the praise, and exponentially better *opinion* than BA Naked Evil, Abacus, etc.

Next best Would be BBBW, which is what I resorted to since I failed numerous times to land another KH

Well it depends on a few things, like your personal palate and the relative effort. But, in general, trading for something highly valued is never worth it. The exception is when you have great trading partners who throw bottles like KH in as extras.

It's a 98 to 100 beer, are you sure hype and exclusivity aren't worked into that?

Honestly asking since I've never had KH and likely never will.

Exaggerated a bit - got turned down @ 4 beats for KH and 7 for Rare. I am actually glad I was turned down, as I would not do that now. Was a frustrating experience.

He can be sure for himself, but not for anyone else.

The good news is B5 is fantastic enough, I will be drinking my last 6! I sent one out for a BCBCS, can't wait to taste that one.

Man, I wish I kept track of what I traded to get my King Henry. I don't remember what it was, but I remember it wasn't anything outrageous. That was pretty soon after it came out, though. I had to trade a ton for a Rare recently, but not the KH.

Unfortunately I think it will be a tough get - I consider my KH's pretty much untradelable because I can't imagine any beer that I would like better, regardless of rarity or whalishness.

Have you tried to squeeze blood from a turnip? If not, I would try that first. Afterwards, bask in the feeling that doing that was less frustrating than trading for a KH or rare.
Someone wanted a case of Kern Citra for one bottle of rare. I guess that was easier than saying "I'm a douchebag".

I agree with you. I thought KH was clearly better than Abacus. And I've had both more than once. I also ranked KH above MoaS, which I also thought was better than Abacus.
