The Abyss Deschutes 2014 release

BCBCS is around 13-14 a bomber. So no, it's not the same. Vanilla is another topic though...

 

They no longer make bcbcs in bombers

 

I'm drinking a 2013 as I write this and wasn't impressed. Does it need some age or is this an off year?

 

Just got released in Madison today.

 

I cracked a 2014 tonight... I don't know if it is just me but I think this is not even close to the previous years. I do not even know if age will help. I was thoroughly disappointed

 

I'm passing this year. No way in hell is this worth $17.99 a bomber.

 

I thought the 2014 was better than the 2013 fresh out of the barrel. I've thought 2013 has aged nicely but I'm very excited to see how 2014 ages.

 

Yea, I don't know... just not buying the overall hype on this beer. It's good, sure, but it's nothing exceptional

 

Deschutes doesn't get distro'd in our area unfortunately. Soon I hope!

 

I wasn't much of a fan of Abyss until recently. I've had it fresh and on tap several times, but I recently had a 2013 I had been cellaring and it was newsroomm beautiful. I'll definitely be looking to set a few bottles of this vintage away in my cellar for later enjoyment

 

Actually, Deschutes has been in the DC area for a month or so! Started distro in early November iirc. Never heard word on Abyss, though bottles of Mirror Mirror, Not the Stoic, etc. have been around town.

I had 2014 on tap last night and glad I didn't pick up any bottles. Tasted like soy sauce.

 

If you watch the video about The Abyss on Deschutes website or YouTube channel, it's clear they had no idea what they were creating when they first brewed it. Maybe it's just a roll of the dice every year lol

It hit the Cleveland area yesterday if anyone is looking for it.

 

It hit Columbus yesterday as well. Most of the bigger stores only got 2-3 cases of it, so quantities were limited.

 

Flew into Portland for work and managed to get a snifter just before it kicked. Loved it, and really wanted a bottle to take back to NY and share with my dad...but couldn't find it anywhere. Only one place had it - in the back - and the clerk said he wasn't allowed to touch it/I'd have to call back or visit when a certain person was there. Eh...not interested in playing games to get beer.

While everyone is certainly entitled to their own opinion, I find ur comment very immature. If you are going to make this kind of outlandish statement you should back it up with findings, etc. Otherwise it is just worthless statement. I personally love this stout and find it even more amazing on tap. $15 for a bomber is very reasonable given things like eclipse going for $30, etc. Statements are only helpful with some sort of reasoning.
