The guy who sent it to me is shipping me a replacement bottle tomorrow, so all should be well, I just hate it when this happens..

Best before 09 July 15 ??? Does Resin really hold up for 7-8 months???

 

That sounds like a long time, but maybe being in a can helps? I would not expect the brewer to overstate something like this. It's also supposedly pretty balanced, if I'm not mistaken...maybe that makes it less age-sensitive than a hop bomb would be.

 

Oooooooooh. The broken Vanilla Rye is so sad. Did the sender have an extra to send? Did he pack the original well? (I'm guessing that if it made it all the way to you that it was bagged well at least, and usually the rest of the packaging follows suit?) Any indication of what happened to cause the breakage?

I've always tried to trade only those items that I have 2 of, just in case of this happening, but I imagine that your trade partner must have been pretty bummed too. This is one part of trading that makes me very nervous. I visited the Beer help forums religiously before my first few trades and read extensively on packaging before sending out. I think I pack well (individually bagged, bubble wrapped, secured from jostling, extra bag around all the beers, smaller box in a bigger box with even more padding...), but it is just so hard to know exctly what is happening to the box between me and my trade partner.

 

Yes, he is sending me another Vanilla Rye tomorrow... . No it was not bagged at all. The box was soaked and stank of stout... but they still delivered it...who knows.. The bottle was wrapped well but it was in a very very small box. I think it just got crunched on one side...

I agree. I am very sad. I was planning on drinking on that tonight. But '14 BCBCS and Resin have been good replacements

 

Im shocked he had a replacement…. One of the reasons, I don't like trading my last XXXX beer. If it breaks, how do I replace it.

 

Oh that is so tragic! If I'm sending a whale of that magnitude, you'd better believe that is going to be the most secure bottle ever packed. Hopefully things get resolved quickly. Did the box smell like a vanilla bomb exploded?

That is why I swear by styro shippers now, or as often as I can. They really are the best way to send beer. A little more pricy, but paying for piece of mind is never a bad thing.

 

He literally called my cell phone about 3 minutes after I sent him a BM and told him the bottle broke, very apologetic... so I think everything will be fine in the end. The box was soaked on the bottom and stunk of stale-ass BA stout when I opened it... Hopefully if he packs it appropriately this time, I'll have another Vanilla Rye on Friday, along with some other great beers from another BA in this thread...

 

Well gentleman, it wasn't a great night, but I was still over average, and more importantly my team swept the night.



So by my calculations, @UcDru is gonna be getting some extra beer from me very soon. Nice work on the pick, off by 1 pin. But more so, thanks to everyone for being awesome beer advocates and fueling my hobby even more! Can't wait for this Not Summer 6er round to get into full swing and start seeing some pron posted.

Yeah,,, I dont really trust our defense that much, but luckily we have #12 behind center! Either way Ill take the win and the beer, haha. Thanks man!

 

Such a huge bummer about the Vanilla Rye.... and Sixpoint dates their beers a year out typically, so what you're drinking could already be 5 months out. I'm pretty sure that Resin they deviate from that and go with 9 months, in which case it's 2 months old. Some people think it holds up remarkably well all the way to 6 or 7 months, personally I find it falls off a lot after the first month but I think we know I'm picky about that sort of thing.

I'm sure you have your reasons, but @Mikexw you might want to take heed of this. As I mentioned earlier, until they're absurdly large, bigger boxes don't cost extra beside requiring more packing materials (which, if you do it right, are free).

 

And hey, you didn't pick against the Packers, you just picked them to be a bit less dominating than they've been in previous weeks. Congrats on the win, I'm glad you got managed to get both the GB win AND the LIF win at the same time. I try to pay it forward, but ultimately I know I've won more than my fair share; beating someone heads-up that had never won one wouldn't have been much fun.
