I'm not a fan of brewery tours, but the one at Anchor is definitely worth your time. You get a great little history lesson, get to check out a gorgeous facility and enjoy a world class brewery.

You will need to make a reservation well in advance.

I second Cellarmaker and City Beer Store in the city. If you're going to be in Alameda then I would definitely suggest trying to get to Faction. Drakes is really close as well.

In case you'll be in east bay, the local liquor store in Moraga has fresh Pliny every thursday, and they usually don't sell out till the next morning (1 bottle limit though). I dont think anyone has mentioned OL in walnut creek yet, which is an awesome bar/bottle store.
I would say the main ones to go to are:
    City Beer
    Mikkeller
    The Trappist
    Beer Revolution
    Toronado
    The Rare Barrel
    Ol

If you see any Moonlight beers on tap go for it. Small brewery out of the North Bay that only sells locally and only on tap. Death & Taxes dark lager, Bombay By Boat IPA and Reality Czech Pils are all winners.

    Usually all on at Toronado.

Have to second (third?) the motion for Faction, especially if you'll be in Alameda.

Thank you everyone for this great feedback. From what I have seen here, plenty of cool spots to visit. I only wish I was there longer to get to all of these spots!

Considering my location during the trip and amount of time there, I am definitely going to try to find a bar in Alameda or San Francisco that has Pliny on tap, this way even if I can't find some bottles, I can at least try it.

I will try a few of these shops listed to see if I can indeed get some bottles and will probably make some calls leading up to the trip and see if I can get a lock on any good places to go.

I will also definitely try to make it to Faction. Seems like there is a general consensus on this one, and it should be pretty easy to get to since I will be in Alameda most of the visit.

Thank you again everyone! Huge help!

I will say too, it is looking like one of my best shots at trying Pliny on tap, may be at Lucky 13 in Alameda. They have it listed as a regular item, but has anyone been here? Is it pretty common? Or is the website just meaning they get it from time to time?

This place also appears to have some really cool other beers that I have never even heard of. Definitely some stuff that is not common to the Midwest, which is perfect, because that is what I am looking for.

It's very common that Lucky 13 in Alameda has Pliny and Blind Pig on tap.
