So if they don't taste alike, you cannot compare them. Got it. I guess we can't compare anything here. No more HT versus PtE threads - they don't taste alike.

I have had both several times, and though they are both completely different animals, Abacus is just as good as King Henry as far as a barrel aged barleywine goes. (IMO)

Ive said it once, and ill say it again, though King Henry is really good, it has too much stout/chocolate qualities for a typical barleywine from being aged in the same barrels that Rare was previously aged in. King Henry looks/taste/drinks more like a strong ale than a barleywine.... (coming from someone who has King Henry in my cellar)

You want something that taste just like King Henry, track down a bottle of Fremont Barrel Aged Abominable.

by your reasoning , you can compare any beer. People are saying they taste alike. I say they are not even close.
Just like my soltice d'hiver aged in Sam Adams barrels tastes nothing like Abacus. Both Barleywines, Yes, but no comparison.

And I can totally agree with you. - Just like a many other beers from many other styles are "just as good" as King
Henry. I may not agree Abacus is but to each his own.
Your assesment of the difference between a barleywine, barrel aged or not, and KH is correct and I agree. That is why I say there is no comparison.

Is this like the Reinheitsgebot? Why does where a barleywine is based make a difference?

do you know the barrel blends used in Sucaba?

Wasn't Foothill's People's Porter aged in mythical PvW barrels as well and well-

    rAvg: 3.87
    pDev: 15.5%
    High: 4.72
    Low: 1.73
A good barrel does not necessarily a good beer.

Both are good barleywines, comparable even. I like the Nissan GTR, I also like Ferraris, I don't like paying three times as much for comparable products. "THOSE ARE NOT COMPARABLE" And this ends our tour of the subjective taste argument museum, exit through the gift shop.

C-mon guy - At least talk about a brewery that knows how to barrel age.
That's like comparing a ferrari to a hyundai

Foothill's doesnt hold a candle to Firestone walker or Goose Island

    I'm out!

And then, just as a single tear rolled down the cheek of the head brewer at Firestone, Matt Brynildson; it was now time for Foothill's Tom T.L. Adkisson to earn his just deserves-

"T.L.! They are likening your product to a Hyundai! And not in the context of an impressive warranty!. . .sir?"

"Why do we do it Samir?. . .the Barrel Aged Sexual Chocolate...they all know I dont hold a candle to Gosse Island, why even bother?"

"Mr. Adkisson! Please, you can't give up your dreams of learning to barrel age things in PvW Barrels, sure BA Sexual Chocolate is rated a paltry 4.35, but SOME PEOPLE LIKE IT."

"You're right, quick to the Santa Fe, we have South Carolina stout to age!"

I don't know where this apples/oranges notion became some binding facet of logic. You can compare anything. Our bracket work during March Madness this year proved that. . .

If you ask me, Muhammad Ali, in his prime. . . was much better than anti-lock brakes.

was typing up a response and then i realized it was a series of "i agree with this" statements.

king henry was surprisingly fruity, and i agree with whoever said it has a lot of stout-like characteristics. it definitely does.

I got a lot of BCBCS offers for Better Half when I tried almost immediately after release. That was frustrating.

why? they're both distributed shelf beers of a similar bottle count from well-pedigreed brewers that were released almost at the same time. it's incredibly fair.

One-off bottling vs annual release. Is that not a reasonable distinction?

i find it hard to be rude to a guy who looks like jesus, so i'm going to clear the post of snark. both beers have been MADE multiple times. cbh may only have been bottled once, but it's really naive to think founders won't do it again.

i said the same thing about chocolate rain: anyone who thought b1 was a one-off was deluding themselves. these are high-margin products.

I've been thinking about trading my KH. I'm tossing around the idea of a case of Dogfish Festina Peche, and 1 Noble Rot.

Obviously you were that asshole. Sure, the offer could have been turned down because he wanted something else. I would assume that if someone with a KH up for trade is taking offers, though. My main point wasn't about that specific situation, but the people who hold their shit ransom for the highest bidder.

As for your added category, I don't see exactly how I'm acting whiny or entitled. I don't give a shit about KH or any other beer to feel "entitled" that I should have a chance to taste it. I would think that "whiny, entitled losers" would be the ones holding it ransom. Obviously that's who you are.
