This is a very time consuming process. Surly did this for the 2011 Darkness and the first batch of Pentagram and that was it. For the Darkness the original plan was to do all the bottles, but stopped once we realized that we would barley be able to stamp all the bottles that were going to be sold at Darkness day.

Pretty sure I've got a "12" stamped into a bottle of Smoke somewhere, too.
It's a cool idea, but like you say, probably not worth the time and effort, even if you do happen to have volunteers.

Maybe wax-sealed and then shrink-wrapped with a proprietary/logoed plastic?

I'm still amazed that there are people hoaxing brands in such a nutty fashion, and trading for RARs and such.

Agreed. It would solve a lot of problems in the beer world however. But yeah, people won't do that because people are selfish, it is imprinted in our nature to a certain extent. Still douchey though.

This may be the answer to all the problems: Certified Collectibles Group
From now on all limited release bottles will need to be submitted to a third party of authentication and grading prior to sale to the public. Each bottle with be cataloged and tracked, ensuring the provenance of each bottle/can.

Sealed in a cardboard box which is then also shrink-wrapped. I think we're on our way to a solution...

To make it even more like trading baseball cards back in the day, we could establish a price guide that would serve as a gauge for all trading of beer.

I volunteer to be the 3rd party person that vets all potential trades. Of course, to be thorough, I would have to do a taste test!

And then dip that whole shrink wrapped box in wax and put 17 custom stamps all over the waxed box.

We're gettin' closer to the perfect system. But it won't be truly perfect until Uncle Charlie seals it as a Craft™ Beer.

Yep. I'm going to work on one. The first issue will only have bottles from my cellar, all of them being vastly over-valued! Anyone who purchases ad space can have their cellar included (with their own values attached- first-come, first-served- unless another advertiser values it higher) It's going to be called Unger's Beer Value Price Guide.

I can confirm this is true. It's the only way other I can tell the '12 from the '13 bottle. Pretty sure '14 has a date code on the bottle itself.

Beer Vigilante sounds like it would be way more awesome to be though, you have to admit that at least.
