Kuhnhenn is like 2 or 3 blocks south of Sterling Heights, MI

I said one of the biggest, not the biggest. The border cities don't surprise me at all, there doesn't seem to be many craft consumers there as I'm sure @thewrongtone can attest to. A good amount of those are cities very close to other cities that have a lot of breweries. DFW metro area for example and Pasadena. Same with West Valley City, UT, being right next to Salt Lake City, Sterling Heights, MI, being just north of Detroit, and Joliet, IL, being close to Chicago.

I'l clarify and say Waco is one of the largest cities without a brewery and you have to drive an hour and a half to get to one.

Depends how fast you drive. :grinning:

El Paso would still win. It is a city and not a border town like most of the Brownville/McAllen/Laredo places are.

The town I live in in Michigan
I still said one of the biggest, not the biggest. I realize El Paso surpasses Waco.

And that 2 or 3 blocks "has made all the difference."

How is El Paso not a border town? Have you heard of Juarez, the town in Mexico just to the south of it?

I think the differentiation he was making is between city and town, and not that it's not on the border. Those other towns mentioned are not major cities like El Paso is.

I think in the same way you wouldn't think of Detroit or San Diego as border towns. Sure, they are technically on an international border, but really more important than that, unlike, say Laredo, which has nothing to recommend it other than access to Mexico.

El Paso is a city. Not a town. And what the other two people above me said pretty much nails it.

There is a huge difference between Laredo and El Paso. They both just happen to be on the border.

Bearded Eel is open now in North Fort Worth. They have some really solid offerings and the owners are great people if anyone is ever close by.

Just heard that Frisco City Grainworks is done. Anyone know what happened? I had heard they were well funded.

Because nothing says, "I need a beer," like Flight School. I can't see any problem with that idea for a name at all.

Great list! Tupps is actually in McKinney. Their fermenters have been set and the rest of the equipment should be delivered in the next few weeks. They'll probably officially open in Feb.

This list is awesome. Thanks @aschwab for your contributions here and for TX craft brew scene. Gotta give u cred, I'm adding the up and coming breweries/brew pubs to a list on Good Beer Houston.

Also, word is Fort Bend Brewing is calling it quits officially tomorrow.

Ah so you are Good Beer Houston. I know you have retweeted a couple of things I have put out there.

Feel free to use that info. It is more or less my list of places as I see them. I cannot promise any of them will ever go through or if some are just homebrew ops, but it is just how I stay organized.

Honestly, if Fort Bend does fold, it would not surprise me too much. I think that will be the first brewery to do so in recent years.
