i could actually imagine cinnamon complimenting the dark fruit, toffee and vanilla notes commonly found in fine barley wines quite nicely

I actually use your reviews and opinions when buying beer for trades. Thank you. I just ran into Iron City Cinnamon...wtf? I don't even like cinnamon graham crackers!

I get some chile spice with Bomb!, on the end, but definitely nothing that tastes like cinnamon does.

I'm guessing @parrotsnest is talking about Coffee Cinnamon Bourbon Barrel Aged Abominable Ale from Fremont Brewing.

BBomb (which, for others, is what Seattle folks call Fremont's Bourbon Abominable) is not a barleywine, FYI. It's an American Strong Ale. (Though I get that American Strong Ale is a pretty amorphous category that you could throw barleywines into.)

That said, coffee is a VERY flexible flavoring and a VERY diverse beverage depending upon the origin of the bean, the roast, the way in which flavor is infused into the beer, etc. Coffee IPAs work with a lighter roast generally of a coffee from a higher elevation that's going to have more tropical notes, acidity, etc. The acidity in coffeee makes it a nice addition to sours or saisons. When you think of coffees that have notes of caramel, earthiness, black tea, nuttiness, spice (cinnamon, clove, allspice, peppery, etc), cocoanut, maple, etc ... how would that not work with a strong ale or a barleywine?

Mash & Grind from The Bruery is a great example, IMHO, of a coffee forward barleywine.

Off topic, sorry! That said, Cinnamon B-Bomb is incredible. A bit rarer but also from Fremont is their very good cinnamon stout, The First Nail. Even better, but crazy rare, is that beer barrel aged, to make The Rusty Nail. Both of these beers will reappear in greater quantity down the road and they will blow you away (particularly Rusty Nail).

I'm betting they will. Ruinten became such a hit they decided to release it annually. Xocovesa will probably be the same deal.

I did a cinnamon cherry dubbel last year as my Xmas beer to give away as gifts.

    Still have one bottle . . .

I added cinnamon to this year's Xmas beer too: a dark strong sour pumpkin saison with chocolate, cinnamon and nutmeg - aged on a toasted hard maple slab.

Love the cinnamon notes in Xocoveza and Bible Belt. I wish there were more of that style that were readily available in sufficient quantities (not limited/one-offs or whales like the Hunas, etc.)

Definitely 2014 Prop. Intense cinnamon. Mexican Cake and all of it's variants has a ton of cinnamon character too.

My experience with Bible Belt revealed a cinnamon-like note. People will chime in and say it was the chili pepper, but it lacked that fleshy vegetable quality - mixed with the sweetness from the chocolate and vanilla it was reminiscent of a spicy cinnamon. So be it.

EDIT: I'd also add in my thought that even though it was not part of the ingredient list of that particular beer, there are many a beer I've come across where the flavors I detected were not necessarily a component of any discernible ingredient in the beer. Ex: I've tasted marshmallow in a beer before - yet never seen marshmallow as an ingredient. I suppose my palate is strange or just flat out wrong.

All good man. I probably should have been more specific in my original comment. Either way, superb stout, cinnamon or not haha
