    Hi All,

I have 1 day for Belgium and 1 day for Bruges in an April trip. I've been reading a lot about where to go and what to do. The problem is that there are too many options! What I'm looking for is the 1 or 2 places that are musts. Preferably with great food as I'm going with my wife who is allergic to beer.

I'm also wondering if there are any great bottle shops. I won't be able to try all I want so I'd love to grab some bottles.

Also, if anyone wants to set up a trade, let me know and I'll start gathering beers for you now.

P.S. - I love sours and tripels. Love 3F here in the US.

    Brussels: Cantillon and Moder.
Bruges: De Garre and take your pick for #2

We don't have a car as of now. We are planning on using public transportation as much as possible.

Thanks for your suggestions. Have you been to them? Do they live up to the hype?

Yes to all of those. In Bruges I ate at Cambrinus (I believe that's how you spell it) and drank at Cafe Rose Red which had a great bottle list for sours.

Been to all. Take a cab to Cantillon. The walk from city center is.. Scary. Moeder is spectacular.

De Garre is a religious experience. Must visit. Also, around the corner is De Struise shop. They are typically serving some good stuff.

Must visit Cafe Rose Red in Bruges as well.

So jealous. I've considered moving there.

Brussels: Definitely Cantillon and Moeder Lambic Fontainas. I was only in Brussels for 1 day so these were my only 2 stops but these are 2 of the best beer spots in the world.

Bruges: 't Brugs Beertje is a must, although it's closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. It's the best bar in Bruges in my opinion. Awesome staff and bottle list (only 5 or so draft lines and nothing too exciting sadly). Pretty much everything on the menu was actually in stock which was definitely the exception in Bruges. Look out for the exclusive de Dolle beer brewed just for them. Also if you are into glassware 't Beertje will blow you away. Cafe Rose Red is great but the bottles are significantly more expensive than the other bars however their 5 draft lines were all nice and pretty cheap too. Stop by De Garre and have their amazing house tripel. I wasn't too blown away with the rest of their selection but it is a cool place to have a couple beers. I would skip Cambrinus. On the surface it seems like a great place but the service is bad and the staff don't have any knowledge of beer at least in my experience. The food is supposed to be good...I just had mussels which were fine but expensive and nothing to write home about.

The walk to Cantillon is only scary if you're afraid of your own shadow. It's not dangerous.

Okay its not the best place in Brussels but it will be the safest ... the older ones will not agree that the younger ones would do something wrong in their neighbourhood ...

We obviously walked through a different neighborhood.

I've walked it a number of times. It's certainly not the Grand Place, but not as bad as you portray it. You're exaggerating.

Another Brussels shitting thread, haha. The area near Cantillon may look rough, but I've never felt unsafe there. However, it is indeed filthy with piles of trash all over the place.

Exactly. It is not the nicest neighborhood, but come on it's an easy and safe 5min walk from Midi.w

I'll second Cantillon and Moeder for Brussels.

My wife and I got lost in that neighborhood while walking to Cantillon. We stubbled upon a street fair/flea market type thing. We mingled and talk with people, ate some street food, and got directions. Don't be afraid to wonder off the beaten path when traveling.
