You really think it is a 1 out of 5 though?

Yes, it's a mess of a beer that makes no sense to me and has alcohol burn at a level of alcohol that, while yes will show through in the beer, should not be to the level this is. The flavors are awful, the mouth feel is awful, everything is bad about this beer.

Like I said in another topic, when I hate a beer, I hate it hard. And this beer deserves it.

I agree. Picked up a sixer last Friday and it doesn't seem as sweet as I remember. I loved the malt character, but it seems to be muted and more hop forward now.

Had it for the first time 2 weeks ago and now it is my favorite from Lagunitas.

I can't quite understand why people say this beer is sweet. ST Creme brulee, THATS sweet

Like who? More breweries should be like lagunitas. They make quality but keeps cost low. You didn't even add any reasons why the beer is bad. Just saying the flavors are aweful. Real specific.

I believe he was trying to say that everyone's view on this--or any--beer, is ultimately opinion. However it does appear to be a fact that the vast majority of opinion on this beer is overwhelmingly positive.

    Yes.

And I did not know how I had to elaborate beyond 'astringent, too much alcohol showing through, and a mess of flavors that don't go together', but hey, I guess when you challenge the group think people don't take too kindly to it.

I think most people just have a completely different perception of this beer than you. That's ok. There are plently of "popular" beers I don't care for. I chalk it up to just not being "my thing". What people don't take kindly to is making definitive declarations of how terrible a beer is just because you don't like it. Obviously you're entitled to your opinion, but don't be surprised by the reaction when you frame it so pompously.

    Objective? More like subjective...

Personally, I enjoyed this one quite a bit, as I do with "most" of their offerings. I can easily see how these same beers that I enjoy can be polarizing in opinions (much like anything from Stone).

That's what makes BA such a great place...differing preferred tastes across the spectrum of beers.

I'm not surprised by the reaction at all. Lags is a darling here.
