The Abyss Deschutes 2014 release

I haven't tried this yet, but I got a bomber yesterday ($17.99). I really wanna give it a try, but should I wait til next year? Or should I bite the bullet, buy another one, drink one now and save one til after the best "after" date: 11-10-15 ??

 

2014 Abyss sucks. Seriously. Super disappointed - The Abyss is the beer that got me into barrel-aged beers. The wine barrels were a huge mistake. I can taste an amazing beer underneath that horrible wine flavor.

 

To be fair, they've been using wine barrels since the 2011 release. Have you not enjoyed all the years since, or just especially this one? Not trying to flame at all -- honest question.

 

I read an article that Deschutes has big distribution plans of the east coast and plans to open a brewery out here. Can't wait. I really enjoyed their stuff when I lived in Colorado.

 

I'm in northeast PA, is it even worth looking for this?

 

If you have to go out of your way, no. Imo

 

I meant in more of a "does it even get distributed to anywhere near me" kind of way. I doubt it does, my area doesn't have the population to get allocated the good stuff.

 

From what I saw today, northern MN/WI got a lot less of Abyss than the other Deschutes bombers. One store was already sold out of the single case it got, and the other had about 15 bottles in sight.

 

Easy to find in southeast pa. Picked up two bottles recently for $13.99/bottle and they keep restocking it. Hoping to try it soon and then age the other a year or two. Hopefully it's not as bad as everyone seems to be saying.

 

Had a few chances to buy some the last few days but decided to pass. Good beer but not anything that special

How many of you are on Gary's beer mailing list and saw his awesome deal of $28/bottle for Abyss. LIMIT ONE! lmao

 

I actually got 2013 bottles from the brewery earlier this year and waited until the "best after date" glad I did I thought it was great and way better after that date, I did had it soon after the release and rated it a point less at that time. I will get the 2014 in a week or so but will wait until the beer tells me it will be ready

 

hope its cheaper at your WFM. I passed at $29 here at WFM.

I actually found it at BevMo here in CA for $17.99... that seems to be the going price, and it's plentiful here too. Almost every bottle shop I've been in, in the past few weeks has tons of it.

 

Mirror Mirror is good, it is a few dollars more than it sells around here. I can not believe its 29 for Abyss there, its between 15-17 here.

 

I'll let you know soon, I have a bottle in the fridge, just have not had it yet.

There are places in PA selling this for $23-$30 lol

Paid $13 and Wegmans and thought it wasn't even worth that.
