I just like how "CCB's not advertising it" means "let me go post it online."

In his defense, When I bought mine nobody at the brewpub told me it was on the downlow. Yes, there was the implication. I don't think it would have lasted beyond yesterday anyway even without the post by adam42381. Gunhaver may know otherwise though.

You cast this vote on an out of towner who was lucky enough to stumble onto something and wanted to let the public know about it, when another character has leeched 3 growlers to profit from on ebay. It's a shame that preconceived notions with negative connotations about people can so often be substantiated. I'm not saying it was the best choice, but this post has sullied some of the beer community for me atm.

I just happened to have a 3 day work trip to Tampa and walked in there Monday about 20 minutes after they tapped the first keg. The word leaked out pretty quick and it was like an assembly line of growlers in there. One of the bartenders was actually egging me and the guy sitting next to me to leak out the info. He said they didn't care as they had a lot of it. It was great timing for me as I got a snifter each day and was able to bring some growlers home to share with friends here.

I saw that link on ebay Tuesday morning. I laughed when I noticed it said local pickup only. First of all, the brewery was still pouring the growlers for $25 and what asshole is going to show their face when selling beer for crazy profit?

Also, on word getting out, I messaged one of my friends in Tampa on Monday and let him know about it. When I saw him Tuesday he said he got over 20 texts from people all over the country asking him to pick up one for them. Word was out WELL before this thread was started.

Alright, so it's ok to call him an idiot, but not ok to call him a d'bag? Maybe that was a poor choice of words on my part, and for that I'm sorry.

What? That guy bought a beer and immediately put it on ebay for 5x what he paid for it. He's not doing a favor to people who missed out, he's trying to make a quick profit.

It's not about quantity, but rather quality (how's that for elitism?)

Really trying to understand this concept.

A "secret" AB Hunahpu's release is done. I imagine the reason behind it, it's probably to take care of locals, which is fantastic and thoughtful (I get it).

However, how do locals benefit from such release when they allow people to take growlers, possibly even multiples?? The entire concept is now gone. I can tell you the FEW who benefited from this. The one dude who's banking his ass off from ebay profits and the others who managed to attain a rediculous amout of the beer. Even if there were growler restrictions, there's always ways around it by muling. Senseless release, IMO.

If the point is to take care of locals by having a secret release, then make it for "on-site" consumption only. Otherwise, advertise a normal release. If not, FEW people end up with boat loads and that's just plain silly. If I lived in Tampa I'd be pissed off when I see my neighbor arriving at home with multiple growlers and my fridge is empty.

Just my 2 cents. If I'm missing something, let me know.

It was advertised to a group who had bought infected bottles from a previous release. Cigar City had already gone above and beyond by offering to replace the infected bottles (full or empty) with different special releases. On top of that Joey wanted to give this group the first chance to get a new Barrel Aged release. He asked that the information not be released to the general public but of course it's hard to keep something like that a secret.

IMO, if CCB wants to reward the locals, they need a 'Reserve Society'.

the copied sentence says it all. We are all entitled to get this beer. well, when you run your own brewery you can reward the locals in some better way that some other beer geek will surely not like. People just have to bitch and bitch and bitch.
Besides the infected bottle thing (which CCB did go way above and beyond for), the true locals knew all about this release and word spread around Tampa just fine. The people who really support the brewery and go to CCB regularly (and not just for the special bottles) were taken care of. if they weren't, tough titty. Can't please everyone. I can't be completely sure but I think they are going to brew more beer...someday. But I have an outstanding offer to share a growler down my way and there may be some Miami people coming over for it. I would be more than happy to argue over some beers with you on this topic.

I really do apologize, adam42381 for the name calling.

Nonetheless, it was an awesome release, and it was great to sit and relax in a non-packed Tasting Room and sip a snifter or two of greatness.

I just came back to this thread and realized that there was a lot of hate directed toward me. I was trying to help out my fellow BA's, plain and simple. The hush-hush nature seemed to be tongue in cheek at the brewery. People were definitely talking about it and they weren't limiting people to single growlers. The bartender was offering it to everyone who walked in. I was lucky enough to be sitting beside a guy - who turned out to be bluedevil23 - who told me they had just gotten another shipment of growlers in stock and I should wait a few more minutes to get one (my wife was waiting in the car following a long drive). I apologize if I broke some unwritten rule of beer etiquette. I was trying to do the right thing.

Full disclosure: I had a snifter at the tasting room, then set up a trade with a fellow BA which involved the growler. I wanted to share the wealth and get some California beers in exchange. Both parties are happy.
