They have been doing a soft opening for friends, family, volunteers etc. Food was great and their new space is awesome.

Our big group ordered what seemed like everything off the food menu and it was all incredible. Pheasant and chicken being the highlights. They can't serve wine there, but the idea will be to have Misanthrope and Pentagram on as beers that will please the white/red wine lovers respectively. Lastly there was no metal playing on Saturday night.

Yes. They had quite a few non meat options on the menu. They did a good job of having something for everyone and you can have anywhere from a full meal to just a snack.

Why is no one talking about the beer!? Does anyone know what they've had on tap so far?

Unless I'm remembering incorrectly, that was yesterday. They are going to have 12+ on Friday. They have room for about a billion taps at the bar. It's nuts.

I'm sure everyone signed non-disclosures since they're industry insiders. Let's just assume theyve had Moe's Bender, Four, yet-to-be-brewed Abrasive and 8 year verticals of Darkness on tap. We'll hear about it next fall.

I was always under the impression that a production brewery with a tap room couldn't serve food? I'm obviously wrong. Do others not serve food because of the added expense/regulation?

Looking forward to seeing the completed brewery and drinking/eating there!

Never mind...I looked it up. Brau Brothers has a restaurant as well.

I was thinking a similar thing too - isn't this partially why Barley Johns decided to open up in New Richmond, WI for distribution? Due to the rules around the brewery/growler-fills/on-site-restaurant/distribution interactions?

Surly can't serve anything but their own beer... no other beers/wine/liquor. Brewpubs can do that (town hall, barley johns etc), but they can't distribute to other bars or liquor stores. That's the key distinction in our (stupid) laws at this point.

I think most current taprooms don't bother because they don't have the space for a kitchen or don't want to bother with the additional regulations when they can have outside restos deliver or food trucks. Guessing we may see more newer ones incorporate some food component down the road (like Urban Growler and Surly).
