I interchange them, I think the Imperial Stout is the American Version of an English-originated RIS, probably a higher ABV than the English versions

In Russia, Imperial Stout drinks you!

Nah- see drtth's post above. Maybe you can look at it like Imperial Stout is the banner under which both RISs and American Double Stouts reside. But even then, there are those who will say there is no difference.

Russian seems more on the roasty coffee and hop forward side while Imperial is just pure malt forward sweetness.

You should say Na Zdrowie before drinking the Russian Imperial Stout. No need for this greeting if drinking an Imperial Stout.

    Cheers!

Pssst....that's Polish. And American-Russian. Russians don't really say that in Russia.

So, how would you say Cheers in Russian-Russian? Please don't use the Cyrillic alphabet.

    Cheers!

Maybe in lieu of Russia's aggression against the West-leaning Ukraine, we should call it Freedom Stout!

Russian Imperial Stouts often come with a nice narrative concerning the court of Catherine the Great, but it's not the narrative that everyone first thinks of when they think of Catherine the Great.

About as much difference as there is between some Stouts & Porters, or some Pale Ales & IPA'S.

Drink one of these if you want to understand the "Russian Imperial Stout" moniker.

If there is one universal way people say cheers in Russia I don't know what it is, I've just know some friends who lived there and people gave them funny looks when they said "Na Zdrowie." They also immediately knew they were raised in America, even if they were born in Russia.
