+1 to the soy sauce note.

Important beer in craft beer history, though.

Another soy sauce experience here with a 94 that we attempted to drink two years ago. Neither of us could have more than an ounce or two. Try it but with no attachment to the outcome being great.

I had some back in the day and wasn't a fan. However, that was a long time ago not sure what I would think now. I remember them as being very sweet with little to no carbonation.

I thought it was pretty darn good, but I drank it in 1994.

I had a 94 earlier this year and it was incredible. I will say though, that it's a crapshoot at this point. It was easily the most intimidating beer that I've ever had. It was either going to be one of the most delightful beers I had ever had or the most bile. I would say that it depends on how it was aged, but I received mine in a trade and to this day I have no idea how it was stored.

I had a 94 and while cloyingly sweet it was a nice sipper. Seems to have been the best year.

I bought two bottles back in the day, one I drank fresh and I thought it is was a sweet alcoholic maple mess. I guess thats why the second bottle never got opened but packed into a box on its side and moved with me at least two times. I found the box and opened it a couple of years ago and it was honestly pretty damn good. This was bottled still with a cork so I think at this point how the beer has been stored will greatly affect any enjoyment of this beer.

I hated it then, then had it about a year ago. It wasn't the awful thing l thought it would be is the best l can say. Still better than Cool Colt.

I'd love to get a bottle...I know there are still a few out there. There used to be a few at one of my usual stores, but I waited too long and they're gone. Might never try it now, they're dwindling.

I had a Triple Bock '95 three years ago. 16 years old at that point. It was a thing of beauty.

My glowing "4.63" review still stands, in an ocean of hatred and negative "1" ratings. :stuck_out_tongue:

    96? AFAIK, there were only 3 releases: '94, '95, and '97.

FWIW, this is my experience with it.

    1994 bottle, consumed 10/23/07.

Wow, where to begin? The beer is syrupy thick, viscuously clinging to the sides of the glass. No carbonation at all. If not totally black, as good as. Sediment in the bottom of the bottle. Nose and taste the same- port wine, cherries and a hint of soy sauce. VERY sweet with alcohol warmth. Made goose bumps rise on my arms with the first sip, the flavor was so strong. Not flawed, especially considering its age, but not an entirely pleasing experience.

This is what a beer liquer must taste like.

    RE-RATED 03/23/08

Five months later, I opened my other 1994 bottle to give it another try.

Appearance: opaque prune juice brown with lots of particulate matter. There was a layer of sediment sludge at the bottom of the little blue bottle that did not budge. I also got some small bits of cork floating in the beer due to the crumbly nature of the cork in the bottle. No carbonation at all. Beer coats the glass sides much like hard liquor: nice legs.

Aroma - Cherry, smooth rich chocolate, sherry/port wine. Alcohol very present.

Taste/mouthfeel - Bittersweet heat as it enters the mouth. Pleasing thick, syrupy mouthfeel. Slightly vinous character. Mellow chocolate and cherries. Oak notes. Subtle alcohol heat on palate results in a smoldering ember in the belly after it goes down.

Drinkability - dangerously smooth but foolish to do anything but sip. A true dessert beer. Far better than my notes of the first tasting, perhaps due to the warmer tasting temperature of the beer this time around.

Overall, it's not so great as a traditional beer but it's a lovely beverage.

I had no idea this beer existed. In the mid-90s, I was guzzling Newcastle, Saranac and Oregon.

They released it to stores in 2007, if my notes are anything to go by.

had a 97 yesterday...it had a giant coagulated floaty in it. Was super sweet, like port wine. Not my taste, but glad to have tried it. Didn't eat the floaty though
