Never seen this in the PNW either. Must be an East coast aberration

I see this in Arizona. Surprised by the replies above, that this isn't more common. I'll make note of the places next time I see it. I just figured it was a dbag move that some, though not most, places do.

Okay, i was thinking the same thing. I was wondering if it was a PA thing. I feel the OP's frustration though. More on principle, because for me, i don't really go out. And when i do it's so infrequently that I am there to go hard and will have funded myself for all possible outcomes of the evening, so i really don't notice.

If i was young, out every weekend, or just more cost-conscious, then I'd be annoyed. And rightfully so. Especially if they're gouging. And if they're not trying to gouge on the sly, then why not just show the price? People shouldn't have to ask, and feel all embarrassed...although I'm not sure why you would....the bar should feel embarrassed for making you ask and look like a dill in front of your date/friends/whatever.

I already know the prices of pints here in Hawai'i, they are between $8-$12. Lucky me...

I act like I just landed on Earth, point to the name on the menu and and ask "Emma Chisit?". No one bats an eye.

You're right. I made a pretty poor analogy. I stand corrected.

Generally, if they don't mention the price of the beer on the menu, they are out to screw you and they know it. They just don't have the stones to tell you to your face.

In the defence of these bars, we, as knowledgeable BAs, generally know around about what the prices of the beers will be. You know that there will be an upward scale in price between one beer to another. It is annoying that they don't have the price with the beer but at least they have a menu!

On brah, how I would love to lay out that coin for a brew in Poipu right now! (shuddering under torrential rain and wind at Cape Foulweather!) Ya, lucky you!

Can't say I've seen this but if I did I'd ask for the price first.

Had this happen last night, sports bar in town has a great selection of craft on tap, but no prices anywhere, led to a 12 oz pour of Xocoveza at $8.25, luckily I only had one.

I wouldn't say it makes me angry, but it does annoy me when they don't have any prices listed.

This just happened to me last night. I was at the ale house and asked to look at their menu and ordered a pint of the winter warmer from schmaltz brewing. I was given the pint and it was 7.00!!

I would understand if this was NYC or Philly, but Jesus Christ its Scranton.

So in conclusion screw that bar.

    This.

I was at a place last year that had Surly Pentagram on tap for $8. I had been drinking it all week for $7 per 12-oz glass, and thought $8 was still within reason. Then it came out in a wine glass, maybe a 6 oz pour. I don't see how failing to print the size is any different from leaving off the price.

It happens in a lot of places here in Lincoln, NE too. They'll have a beer list w/o any prices and half of them will be out of stock. Or something else that is annoying is having a large glass beer fridge behind the counter but not having a name or price list to read (inspect) up close. It sucks for people with glasses (like me) that can't see very well. If places are rude about having to go check the prices I won't tip them/never return to the business. I vote with my dollar.

I'm pretty sure that you legally have to put the price on the menu here. Thank god!

Then, you've never been to Max's.

That is the thing with Max's. It sucks that they don't do it, but I've never been raked over the coals there. I know another bar in Columbia, that can be a different story, but also has great specials (on their house beers). Max's is able to do this because they offer a service and selection that you are hard-pressed to find anywhere else. Also, it's not that hard, since all they have to do is add a small column on their paper beer menu that changes everyday.

I'm blown away by the people that haven't experienced this. Do you guys ever go out? It's very common...at least on the West Coast
