I'm curious as to what everyone's favorites are, the style seems interesting to me but I haven't really broken into it yet.

I've tried a couple of sours from Nightshift - which I did enjoy - and am going to grab a bottle of Farm to Face this weekend; are there any that seem to be generally well-received by those new to the style?

Currently my favorite Wild Ale that I can get semi-regularly is Temptation from Russian River. (But living in MA you'd have to join the trading forum and find someone willing to trade for it.)

For an entre point into Belgian Gueuze, I'd say start with Lindeman's Cuvee Rene. Quite good, more reasonably priced than most, and pretty widely available. (But if you don't care for artificial sweeteners, avoid the rest of their products as they use them liberally.)

Alewerks Lover's Greed. If you're also into wine, this one will impress you.

I don't know if it would be available in Mass. Find a trader from VA & it should be fairly easy to get, though.

Cuvee Des Jacobins is my go to, if I had regular access to supplication that would also be a go to. Surprise of the year was Three Floyds Chevalier Bertrand, blueberry deliciousness.

Love Child and Saison Brett from Boulevard are both really good and not terribly hard to find when they are released.

Duchesse de Bourgogne and Tilquin Oude Gueuze for easy to find European sours.

Rodenbach/Rodenbach Grand Cru are easy to find and they're cheap in comparison to most other sours. La Folie and Le Terroir from New Belgium are great and widely available too.

My top sours that are sour and not bretty/funky (and fairly obtainable) are Cantillon Rosé de Gambrinus, Captain Lawrence Rosse e Marrone, The Bruery Sans Pagaie, Goose Island Juliet and Duchesse de Bourgogne. The Farm to Face is excellent and fairly retrained in both fruit and sourness.

Seems like Cuvee Rene is pretty popular from the external reading I've done as well, and I'm pretty sure I've seen it at a few stores nearby. I'll be on the lookout this weekend for sure.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, really interesting stuff. Keep them coming!

I think I would be more partial to non-funky ales, at least to start with. I don't have an issue with funk in a hoppy beer but, so far I haven't been a fan of funky malty/fruity beers.

Wow you must have a secret store for some of those to be fairly obtainable. All except Farm to Face and Duchesse are not all that easy for me to get right now for sure

I do, however, recommend every one of them as being exactly what OP is looking for.

I'm pretty sure I've seen that around me, Cisco is pretty common in the stores I frequent so I'll be on the lookout.

You should, its based in MA. I get them when I visit the parents in MN, so for you should be no problem, the link below is their regular, and its one of my favorites. Basic, but very good IMO

I have obtained a lot of sours from trading: Russian River makes good stuff (basically anything that ends in 'tion), Crooked Stave, Wicked Weed, Almanac, The Rare Barrel.

I also live in MA so locally I have been able to find Avery Sours (Rufus Corvus), Night Shift has some good stuff, Allagash always has a nice sour offering (Pick Your Own, Nancy, Midnight Brett, Farm-to-Face, etc.), There are a couple of bottle shops near me that have sours from the Bruery and Cascade which are a little more on the expensive side.

You can always go the Belgian route and pick up anything from Lindemann's, Timmerman's, or Rodenbach. I think Petrus is American but its in the Belgian style section usually. Lambics started me off and a framboise from Lindemann's is always good.
