What is sad is that the places that used to sell variants for $50-70 would have them sitting behind the counter for months, sometimes over a year with no-one purchasing them. Just the occasional post about "xyz store has it for $70... lol"

Now the scene has changed, if a places puts Prop out for $50 it is sold out in 15 minutes.

I was shocked that Before You Go Liquor was selling prop got a reasonable price. I've passed it plenty of times and never thought much of it from the outside, but they've actually got some nice options.

My Logan square spot got a single case of prop in and was selling for 29.99. So the idea of scone shipments isn't as laughable as it was last week.

When did Dobby's sell to Cardinal? When I worked near Dobby's that was one of my go - to places. The guy (owner I'm guessing - think his name was Matt - its been several years) was one of the nicest guys to deal with. No surprise it went down from there.

Probably a little over a year ago. It's now Garfield's. The owner (not Matt) is changing his handful of Cardinal locations to Garfield's. Matt was the beer guy and is now on wine. Back when he was the beer guy, he mentioned the $4 Zombie Dust singles and was not happy putting that price on it but it came from higher up at Cardinal or something along those lines. They charged the same as LP Binny's for BCBS this year so they're not really in the business of jacking up prices to exorbitant amounts.

So Matt wasn't the owner. Hope he's doing okay. Thanks...

When Matt was the beer guy he used to only sell the limited stuff to regulars. This year they sold on Black Friday to people that lined up early. Really takes away my motivation to do all my beer shopping there if they don't take care of me.

Not sure if serious? If you are, and I was the beer guy at Cardinal/Garfields, I would just tell you to take your business elsewhere anyways, as entitled neck beards aren't really the most loyal of customers...

Yeah, one of the Foremost Liquors up north in Chicago was selling Prop for $45 a bottle yesterday(selling barleywine and regular 4-packs for the same), and it sold out about...an hour or two after it went on sale, I believe. If you can't keep Prop on the shelf for at least a day at that price, then the market has clearly gotten out of hand in Chicago.

Yes I'm serious. I don't have a neck beard and have purchased most of my alcohol from that location for almost 8 years. When the workers know you on a first name basis, they should probably be interested in maintaining your business. Matt has kept limited releases in the back for regulars for years. I guess that is not the case anymore with the new owners.

Would you tell the regulars to take their business elsewhere or would you make sure that beer gets allocated to people they knew for sure were regulars???

I'm making a prediction here and now:
2015 will be the year Prop comes in those 750ml bottles they put the sisters in and they sell for $49.99.

Actually Prop, regular, and all variants are coming in 16.9oz bottles next year.

I would tell people who felt they were entitled to limited releases to take a hike. The two are not mutually exclusive in any way, shape, or form.

Oh, and Cardinal/Garfields still does hold stuff for regulars, you just have to treat their beer guy like a human being instead of expecting them to hold things for you.

Are we going to see $29.99 for 16.9oz variants?
