For me: wine + stout = not good. Sure, age sours in wine barrels, that can be great, but in an imperial stout?? No thanks.

The 2010 Abyss was great in 2010 ,2011, 2012 and last year. This year the 2010 is past its prime. Just cracked a bottle with several friends and we agreed that while it's still good, it has lost something. I have never disliked any of the Abyss releases after 2010, just been pretty disappointed. But the 2014 I straight-up did not like. And for the record, when I said 'soy' I meant 'soy sauce'. Not what I want to taste in my barrel-aged stouts, period. I'm sure that even in 3 or 4 years you will be able to taste at least a hint of that wine - plenty to ruin it, for me.

Also - we have plenty out here, I've seen dozens of cases in many stores. If you want to trade for some soy sauce-errr 2014 Abyss, hit me up. I'd be happy to trade $4$ for something from somewhere else in the country...

I've had numerous bottles of 2014 abyss and haven't tasted any soy sauce. It's actually one of the best years fresh

Dude, as a craft beer enthusiast I'm rarely surprised by any price a brewery asks for their offering. I've seen Bourbonic Plague on the shelf for $52 dollars a 750 mL and sadly contemplated buying it. When I see beers in the sub $20 range I take a sigh of relief.

Last year's Mirror Mirror aged better than The Abyss IMO

I can't seem to find the barrel ratios on the early releases of this beer, so I'm wondering where you got the idea that the ratio has been decreasing. Any light you can shed would be most appreciated.

But more to the point, I don't understand the mentality that something being less than 100% barrel-aged somehow makes it subpar. I've had plenty of 100% barrel-aged beers that were completely terrible. At least with a blend, you know that the brewer is trying to achieve a more refined beer by determining the ratio that makes for the best-tasting finished product.

I agree with you about the bottle, and I think this one is better priced at $15, which is what it was in my area this year for the most part. That said, I've gladly paid closer to $20 for it in the past.

Well two things one on the bottle it does say best after Nov.2015. Two having said that the wine barrel aging having tasted this already was a huge flop it over powers everything and comes close to tasting like an IPA. I will age one of these bottles to see if it mellows out. I was really looking forward to this beer and I for one am severely disappointed in it. It's selling for $14.99 to $15.99 here in SW Ohio and is overprice IMHO.

Looks like (from what I could find) '08-'10 was 33% and '11-'14 has been 28%. Hardly a decrease over the years though...

Yea, doesn't change the fact that it's expensive though.

Liquor-Express should still have some. Best kept secret in the valley. You might have to ask b/c they keep some stuff behind the counter.

In LA there's more Abyss sitting on shelves than BA Old Rasputin or Mirror Mirror, in numerous stores.

    Times they are a' changin'

It's not that I'm wanting it to be a big barrel aged bomb, its just ok. It tastes fine. Their obsidian stout I believe is better. city beer in SF posted they had a keg of 2008 on tap recently and it said more around 35-40% barrel aged. I believe this year is 25%??
