Perhaps, I spoke out of turn. I do not think I could say it is representative of the style based on one tasting out of the can. My bad. I would like to try it again, as well as other Dark Milds. Sadly, this particular style is just not available here in the US.

Haven't you heard/read? Cans are all the rage in the US. :stuck_out_tongue: And I think for a good reason; I don't know if the quality of the beer in cans has improved but the quality of the beers packaged in cans now has improved.

I can't speak to what you lot's beers in cans have done over the years..

You should seek this one out:

Damn tasty and more likely to be fresher than the few UK ones that get imported to the US.

    hahaha brilliant

actually you do have a point because I still have people look at me quizzically when I say that I've just had a really tasty American beer as they think of Bud and Coors then they quote Monty Python

'American beer? isn't that like making love in a canoe? Fucking close to water?'
then I know that they haven't noticed 10-15 years of mind blowing hop magic, luckily I keep some Anchor and SN for such moments.

I have hardly touched on the U.S. craft scene but it has shown that because of it's progress there is a real future for Real Ale over here and has also given a lot of inspiration for brewers over here.

I will of course give beer a go if it is only available in cans, I have two cans of Bombardier in the fridge which are marked as 'Emergency Bitter Supply'

I have drank Moose Drool Brown Ale out of the can. It is fine if you pour it in a glass.

Had another couple of pints of cask mild this lunchtime.
Had some Lees "Brewer's Dark" yesterday at 2.8% ABV, one of the rare occasions I've had a bottled mild.Nice enough but as the gravity suggests, a little watery.

So they've dropped the % to catch the tax break!

Well I hope the price reflects it because I was not too pleased at having paid nearly Two pound for a bottle of mild from a local brewery and one from a brewery famed for low priced beers.

    No way

Nitro beer either in cans or draught makes me barf!

    Quite literally and spectacularly so!

I put up with them if they are my ONLY option but I know and agree with you wholeheartedly that's not doing the beer any justice.

I think it was £1 or at most £1.25 a bottle from Morrison's.
Didn't expect much as I'm not a bottle/can enthusiast, it seems to drastically dumb down flavours but some times I have to settle for it.

Yeah, that's what we in the States have to do. Settle for what gets imported here. /says me as I finish my bottle of King & Barnes Christmas Ale 1993.

The short answer would be, "Yes, generally speaking." Oskar Blues Brewing in Lyons, Colorado produces some astonishingly excellent beers, and has never put any of it in a bottle. Recent (i.e. within the last ten years) developments in non-reactive can liners have resulted in a truly neutral can: no change in taste results from the metal, because the beer never actually contacts the can itself.

Oskar Blues Old Chub is my go-to cold weather beer.

I was looking at this the other day - it used to be £1 a bottle. However I hadn't noticed the decrease in gravity. Last time I had it I thought it was nice enough for the price, but a bit watery - and this was at 3.5% (I think). I can't imagine that such a significant reduction in alcohol content will have improved the flavour or body. Oh well, just another business decision....

Hey is it true the new Fullers 2.8% mighty atom is a mild ale? I might try some if so.

I was going to have a Black Cat, a Suffolk Bitter, and an Old Tom Original today but the store I bought them from left out the Black Cat.

    Make that a Southwold Bitter.
