Brown Ales! Although, growing up with the American Macrobrews, I'll always have a bit of a soft spot for a can of Budweiser when I get angsty for Dad (even though I can't drink the stuff, now). <3

If God ever made a better all around beer than Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, he kept it for Himself.

I think lagers, specifically Victory. Victor Lager is one of the first beers I really remember enjoying, it started my path into craft.

I had a Gibbs 100 GPA (Greensboro Pale Ale) the other day in an oldish dimpled Imperial pint style mug at the brewery. This is the beer that I think of most. Like an excellent ale one might encounter out and about in England. Beautiful malt, plenty of hops, and a tasty brew to drink time and again. Cheers!

I don't know why you insist on calling 19.2 ounces 20.

Because an Imperial pint is 20 Imperial fluid ounces and that much weighs exactly a pound and a quarter. That's for water but beer isn't much different.

    Beer? Budweiser.
Great beer? Marston's Pedigree fresh from the cask. (Generically, English Bitter... and no, not ESB).

Well, it represents American music in more ways than perhaps you meant...

Great choices here, but for me, it isn't about the destination, it is more about the journey.

Well, it's still 19.2 ounces in my home. But you obviously knew that already.

It would have to be a Schlenkerla/Van Steenberge collaboration.

The quintessential beer is the tripel. it is peaking in fruitiness and with hops presence . It has bitterness but not in force like an IPA. It has a soft sweet pils malt that seems to melt in your mouth and it has a tempting and flagrant bit of sweet alcohol. Complex yet completely understandable if you drink it in the morning. =)

Great Lakes Edmund Fitz or Oktoberfest... I feel like I should pick a german or bavarian Oktoberfest, but that GL one is just amazing.

Honestly the first thing that came to mind when I read this was "Budweiser", which obviously is in no way a quintessential beer. I guess 29 years of mass marketing has had some effect on my mental reflexes. Well done AB In-Bev, well done.

After having just about every type of beer over the holidays, I am going to say that Saison Dupont is the quintessential beer.

I'm currently enjoying a 750mL of Saison Dupont from May 2014. Its been sitting in my cellar since last June at around 60 F in complete darkness.

No skunk, great head retention, decanted leaving the sediment in the bottle, great hop presence (despite the age), VERY spicy, dry as hell, generous dry malt presence. Any more sweetness, hop or tartness would have detracted from the taste. Perfect as it is.
