Did you call the store to ask about the discrepancy?

OP, I'd walk by Citra Ass Down if it was $8 per bomber. Just buy a bomber of TG Sue (assuming you are in a store that sells it) for $7 if you want a Citra beer.

Here's the answer, don't buy it. I understand being upset, but complaining on a message board is silly. If you can't afford it, don't buy it. Christ, why don't you go on yelp and complain. That'll reach more people

Or yanno, talk to the store about it before putting them on blast via BA.

We are just going to have to politely disagree on this. I have gotten tangible results by outing stores on BA. Even if it has not always worked, I encourage others to do the same.

It's pretty crappy to just out a store like that without attempting a resolution in person. Those reviews can be really damaging to a business who may not know or understand the whole story (customers can be wrong too, and misunderstandings happen). Carelessly throwing out assumed information is really frustrating as a store employee when you'd have been willing to make it right without someone feeling the need to share that with the world. That said, if you attempt a resolution in person and it doesn't get fixed or they don't care, then I'd say it's fair game to put up a review. Out of curiousity, did you change your review when the store made it right?

Again, we politely disagree. ... You are making the assumption that said store owner is too naive to understand their own business. Overchanging by such a large amount is no accident. If the OP walks into the store and says I got screwed, do you think he will get an apology or refund? And even if he does, a new sucker will walk through the doors later.

And yes, I have retracted comments posted on BA after a business owner contacted me. I have also been blown off when I addressed a problem in person. When I travel, I check store reviews. I find the assessments of other BAs valuable. If I see a bottle shop jacks up prices, I would like to know that I should not stop there.

I guess I'd just rather assume the good in people and give someone the chance to make it right rather than slam their business over what could possibly be a misunderstanding. Especially with a brewery like Against the Grain who has different prices in different states for some of the same beers. The fact that they changed the price back down tells me it was probably an oversight, and if the OP were to bring it up to a manager, they should make it right. If not, blast away.

Also I agree with the fact that reviews are a great tool for finding places to go in unfamiliar territory, I just want them to be fair and accurate.

TG is making the best apa and ipa's right now in my opinion. Zeelander was my go to until I tried Light Speed. I was interested in trying Citra Ass Down which was why I bought it.

    So assumptions are bad...

...yet that's an assumption. I've had stuff come in and sell before new pricing dropped that was too high. The customer contacted me and i refunded the difference. I've updated Beermenus with the wrong price before i had to correct later. These things do happen. Coming out guns blazing over a simple error can indeed be detrimental to a business...

    ...see?

I'm not trying to pick on you, but i mean, come on, always contact the store first. We're not in it to lose customers. My guess is that it was an accident. If it wasnt an accident *then* nail'em to the wall.

@bmony26 Did you contact the store about the discrepency?

I politely disagree. While I chose to not name the place where I purchased my beer if somebody wants to name the place then let them. I chose not to post the name on this site but I did make a post about this on Facebook to alert my friends about this practice. I was not complaining about the price but rather the fact that I was charged one price then the owner put the bottles on the shelf and charged a lower price per bottle. How could this not be anything but intentional.

I don't see how it could be anything but an accident, knowing the situation in the way you've presented it. Prices of things change all the time. There are deals that go on and off for certain beers every month so much that it's impossible to keep track of them all in a store with a decent or better selection. Yes there are people who overcharge for certain beers because they can, but if he was as out to get people as you claim, don't you think he would've kept the higher price all along?

Would love to know what industry you work in. So when you make a mistake at work (and you have) you would be cool with someone telling everyone at work that you made the mistake intentionally and smearing your reputation before asking you/knowing the full story?

Stores like every other business make errors, and some of those are pricing errors. Not giving the store a shot at making it right is every bit as crappy as the business who is intentionally screwing people over. You are intentionally trying to hurt their business even though they may have made an honest mistake. Not every business is out to screw the customer over.

You know that prices aren't always in the system correctly from the get go right? People enter the prices, and since people are involved mistakes can happen.

I've worked in retail and items would come in all of the time at the wrong price (or not priced at all). We would fix it as soon as we caught the mistake. I mean do you think the owner knows the exact price of every bottle in his shop the day it arrives? Impossible to be perfect on this kind of thing.

Not sure why you aren't going back and asking the question. You would likely get your $3 back.
