For amazing Vegan food, I would recommend eating at Portobello at SE 12th and Division and then walking next door and drinking at Beermongers afterwards and Apex is across the street.

Go early. If it's anything like the last couple of years, the tent will smell like roasted cashews and stale beer farts by 5pm.

As for new brewery openings, I have been really digging Baerlic which is just a few blocks up from beer mongers.

Go check out the Growler Guys on SE 8th, about a block away from the Cascade Barrel House. Brendan always has good things on tap, and they do pints/flights as well as growlers.

Also: The Commons is celebrating their 3rd anniversary with a party on Saturday. The taplist looks tempting.

As for new breweries: I've had some good beers from Ex Novo, and they're pretty close to Upright if you find yourself in that area.

If it's Kennedy School or Edgefield, I would agree. Though their beers I would not rate there beers "World Class" or "Outstanding", some are very good, and these places are unique and memorable. Both have hotels, and both are within 20 minutes of the airport.

If you are planning on heading to the gorge, Hood River, or the Gorge/Mt Hood scenic loop, the Edgefield is a great place to start.

For clarification, it sounds like they are still brewing, just not accepting visitors. I do agree, that is sad!

If you are doing the scenic gorge/ Mt Hood loop, Solera is would be the best alternative. They've not won the awards of Logsdon, but they have pretty good brews, excellent views of the mountain, and are pretty close to Logsdon.

I would add Kennedy school as a must visit tourist attraction, not a beer location.
I have probably gone there 10 times with people visiting from out of town to walk around for an hour or so and always opted to move on to greener pastures for beer, which almost always meant Breakside since we were in the area.

So, while I think it is a really cool place, I would never list it under beer destinations.

For the Hood River/Gorge trip I usually do:
    - early am hike of Eagle Creek trail
    - lunch in Hood River at pFriem, get coffee next door, visit Dbl Mountain as well
    - move on to Logsdons (closed in winter)
    - then Solera and one of the best beer garden views ever
    - (optional) drive up to Timberline lodge for the view
    - back to PDX for food and beer somewhere (this is the point as the usual tour guide/DD that I finally get to have a drink)

I agree in adding Kennedy School. It's something that is distinctly Portland and has that Wow factor.

The Hood River/Gorge loop I would do (since we are talking about it) is:

Lunch at Pfriem, beer at double mountain, Full Sail Tour (if with tourists)
Drive up to Logsdon or Solera (pending on weather)
Back down through Hood and stop at Thunder Island in Cascade Locks

-Backwoods Brewing and if it's open Acadian Farms in Carson, WA
-Everybody's Brewing in White Salmon, WA

Has anybody been to BTU Brasserie? It doesn't look like it's been added to the BA database yet. Reviews on Yelp don't really mention the beer.

I went with a bunch of folks in early Sept, but they didn't have the brewery running yet when we were there. I can vouch for the food being good, although it was just the late night menu and not the full, but collectively we ordered at least two of everything on the late night menu, and no one was disappointed.

I saw some untappd checkins at BTU last night. Looks like they've got 4 or 5 of their own beers flowing now. Was thinking about stopping by today and crossing it off the list.

    Bump.

Will continue to maintain this as an active, open thread, until and unless folks feel it has served its purpose and should be retired.

Perhaps it's time to retire this one and start a winter/spring edition so that visitors don't have to scroll through 4 pages of outdated info about festivals that have already happened.
