I'll probably take it to the New Years party I'm going to, I'm
Sure a few people will try it, and if they don't like it, I'll drink it throughout the night.

Haha, enjoy the beer and then enjoy the buzz. It's a win-win situation.

Rarely do I share, I used to split all my HTF stuff and the favor was never reciprocated so now don't even think about sharing. I guess the older I get the more jaded I am.

Besides its just over 2 beers so its not like that is too much in one sitting.

I had a Mexican Cake last night and it was terrific, more pepper in this than I remember, but it was just me, no one else likes these beers, so I go it alone. I have a hard time thinking about opening a BT and killing that one alone though, wow that might be rough.

It's really only 2x 11 or 12oz pours. Typically it won't take me 2 days. But I only open a 22 or 750 of the big stuff alone if I know that I have the time/day after to appropriately "enjoy" it.

Why do people make a big deal out of this all the time? It's not that hard to drink two high ABV beers by yourself.

I don't think the concern is for drinking one in and by itself, its not a mean feat by volume, just the repercussions from doing so. A 750 of Black Tuesday will probably put a hurting on ya.

No shame in corking a beer. Just make sure to cork it as soon as you pour the first glass.

I had a 22 oz bottle of Abyss and although I loved it, I was pretty wasted upon completion. I drink A lot of craft beer but certain beers seem to make me ******ed more than others. Either way, I drink the whole bottle without hesitation, always!

    Cheers,

I only crack those on a Saturday or Sunday so I can spread it out over 10+hours. I have recorked for the next day with not much loss.

I'll drink the whole thing myself, but not in one sitting. Will usually have a glass, maybe two, then use a nice stopper and fridge it until the next day or whatever

Why do people assume that everyone can handle that much alcohol?

I nursed a bottle of Santa's Little Helper - 22oz/10.5% ABV - over the course of nearly three hours and the result was a very restless night of tossing and turning and feeling like crap in the morning. I can't imagine what 25 ounces of Speedway's 12% would do to me.

Conversely, on Christmas I opened a C&C bottle of Gift of the Magi. I drank about two thirds of it, then left it completely uncorked in the hotel fridge overnight. Took it out when I had lunch the next day, poured a glass, and still got a good one finger head from it.

Try to shame lightweights all you want, but some of us just aren't built for it, and the result is we don't have to spend nearly as much money on beer. So joke's on you!

I also love spreading a large bottle over a few days. The main adversary of course is oxidation. Using wine bar tactics I usually give it a shot of inert gas and use a champagne (pressure) stopper. Works like a charm.

Yes, use a proper bottle stopper and the beer should be good for 2 days. Works with imperial stouts, barley wines, quads and the lot. It doesn't quite work for DIPAs, or any beers where a slight amount of oxidation is not tolerable.
A bottle stopper that works for 660ml bottle may not necessarily be the right fit for a 750ml. So be sure to check that it fits properly - also doesn't hurt to keep a few different sized ones handy. Good luck!

I tend to split the bottle with my wife or a buddy but there have been times when I've killed one of myself.

I usually save all my big bottled beers for the beer nights I have with my friends. If I were to go the route of having a couple high ABV beers (which I have many times before), I'd probably also make sure I was drinking some water as well. Not only will it help offer a good change of pace between swigs, but it'll help manage the hangover the next day. I've found the older I get the less tolerance I have for hangovers the next day....

I normally will be able to finish a big one in an evening - if I open it around dinner time, the 2 glasses will last till about bedtime. There are rare occasions when I can't or don't want the rest, so I use one of the stoppers (I use them anyway) and put it back in the fridge for tomorrow. I've found the biggest beers, the ones I can't finish that day, will easily handle the extra time. IN some cases, it is the better for a bit of oxidation in time (mostly the biggest quads, barleywines and RIS's.) I don't think one has ever turned so bad over the 24 hours that it's been a drainpour.
Again, most of the IPAs and such I can easily handle in one day. It's when it gets well over 10 - 12% that there's an issue.

I do drink 750s myself. On the weekend is when I drink large format beer. One glass in the morning and one in the evening.
