Nope- just a coincidence, it seems. I had the Gun Hill 13 Star XIPA, from the Bronx (not too shabby, btw, maybe a B+ overall). The place where I get my growlers in Rockland County, NY does get Carton from time to time, though. I just haven't seen the Epitome there, yet.

i have no problem drinking a bomber of 10-12% on my own..i'll be at home when i do and it will take me a couple hours.
Now, something that 18%..different story. I also do think bombers tend to be 'special' beers, one a year releases that are often suitable to sharing with others, so there's that element that is completely detached from ABV and # of ounces.

I'm sure nobody bats an eye going out and having 2-3 pints of a 7.5% IPA when they go out, so I"m not really sure why having a bomber by yourself would be an issue.

Well, I never have, but I'll bet I could over a few hours time. I've had a DFH WWS or 120 plus other beers in one day, so...

Depends, If I am with friends I will split my bomber with them and they will split one with me. If I am alone I drink the entire bomber.

I have no problem drinking a bomber that's 10+ ABV within an hour, I just make sure I have nothing to do for the rest of the evening.

Today I tried for the first time Yazoo's Sue imperial smoked porter 750 ml at 9.0% ABV. It was awesome and I sipped the whole thing down over 2 hours. It was the most enjoyable beer experience I've had yet.

A bomber of 9-11% is no big deal to finish alone. Man up and drink. Many of you have downed 6 or more 7% and had no problem. I don't see why a bomber is your cryptonite

I have had many of BT (and other strong Abv) on my own. Just open, block out some time, don't drive annd enjoy the experience. If I have to share, it will be with man's best friend...he loves a good strong stout:slight_smile:

Excellent thread! In most cases, if I'm not buddying up and sharing one, I will keep a bottle, and drink it over a course of a couple nights, no matter the size, preferably out of a basic 4oz taster. Especially, if it's higher ABV and barrel-aged. Sometimes refrigerated, sometimes counter-topped. Depending on that, sometimes a beer turns into drinking something closer on nitro and and different flavors appear. With corks, I let them air out and with caps, I let them keep some carbonation for a last stand.

When drinking special releases from the heavier-hitters, on my own, I go to the full extent to enjoy these beers. To know and remember them. Really great question. Since you began with Speedway, which parallels Cigar City mouth feel, I highly recommend trying some of the barrel-aged variants of Alesmith. They know what they're doing and the bottle work is classy as well, and withstanding so far.

Drink it while eating. Cheese, salami, something grilled. Helps to curb the hangover.

Yup. I have the advantage of being a 200lb+ male though, which helps a lot. A petite woman would probably be in a coma from a bottle of Chocolate Rain, in comparison.

I never open a bottle that I don't intend to finish and I don't consider 750ml of a 10-15% beer to be that much alcohol. It's only equivalent to 6.6 "standard" drinks. Two good pours of whiskey in a rocks glass will equal that.

Honestly, I've cracked a good number of high ABV bombers to share with a friend and kind of wished I cracked it solo or bought two bottles because I couldn't get enough of it. The experience of sharing and enjoying beer socially always trumps it, but I won't pretend to be such an amazing person that I don't have some mixed feelings on occasion.

It's not a matter of being able to finish it, it's the calories for me. Can't imagine drinking 1200+ calories in one sitting by myself. I love beer so much, but I love not being fat way more.

Usually when that happens I check first to see if I actually wanted to drink it in the first place.
    Then I open it.
    Then I drink it.
    All of it.

The answer to that is, of course, to exercise. I easily consume at least that many calories on a Friday and/ or Saturday. I run and do other things and have not put on a pound in years. In fact, I've managed to lose some weight even though I'm in the dreaded over 40 category of supposedly low metabolism.

My GF doesn't like BA beers so on Christmas we shared a Speedway Stout and I put down all but maybe 1 ounce of a BAVSS. I find it easier to drink by using a tasting glass and enjoying it 4 ounces at a time.

I kind of feel like gregsbeerreviews on this one, but I have a lovely (off screen) wife who enjoys beer and happily jumps in to enjoy all of those big, beautiful brews with me. She doesn't like IPAs though, which I am ok with!
