Greetings again, Just one more German for today. This is Freigeist Geisterzug, a spruced Gose. At first this one was too cold and was a bit closed, but after warming some, it began to emerge as a very soft, mild, and subtle Gose of very high quality. Tart, fresh, with some spruce in the nose, the soft mouthfeel was a great pleasure that would be an outstanding accompaniment to baked white fish, shrimp spring rolls, and a variety of Asian foods, for sure. This is a beer of very high quality that is unique. For those that may think that German brewing is a monolithic enterprise, try this little beauty.
Mark Knophler is also under-rated. Here is a gorgeous tune! Cheers.

Okay back for one more review on this fine NBS.
So as I explained in my last post my lovely wife decided to get me some beery gifts this Christmas and after a lovely walk with our little guy in the park this afternoon I decided to crack into another one of my gift beers.

So this one is full bore and 8% it is indeed a heady brew...

    look: 3.75 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4

Appearance - Light rocky head a top a dark ruby amber brew that shows no CO2 at all. The colour is good but the head is a bit of a let down on this one to be honest.

Smell - A really good nose to be found here with brown and cane sugar, prune, raisin, stewed plums, caramel and sweet pastry. It smells much like a plum crumble made by my mother.

Taste - The nose would have you expect that there is almost no hop presence in here but that is wrong. The hop and malt balance here is done quite well. The initial taste has all the elements of the nose such as cane sugar, stewed fruits and biscuit like malts so that it is rather like a liquid crumble, however there is a kicky little hop tweak in there that balances well.

MF - Like the Stout from Hunters this beer is slightly thin but it has a great long lived drying linger that is its saving grace in the mouth feel side of things.

Overall - Another good beer from the boys down in Devon there are some flaws but the beers overall flavour is good and that is the most important element in my opinion... after all a beer could look like God himself brewer it but taste like the Devils piss while another look like shit but taste divine and I know which one I'd go for.

    Happy NBS all...

Finished helping the wife take down the Christmas decorations since we are back to work tomorrow, so it must be time for a new beer.

This one comes to me thanks to @egrace84.

Today's choice is Not Your Father's Root Beer (5.9% version) by Small Town Brewery. Root beers are among my favorites, so I had pretty high hopes for this one.

Both aroma and flavor are as advertised - straight up root beer with a hint of alcohol. Overall, it is a touch sweet for my taste. Maybe I will get a chance to try the higher ABV versions, and hopefully that would counteract the sweetness somewhat.

Another Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout, this one from Rock Art Brewery in Morrisville VT. Nice brew a bit less body than most Imperial Stouts but a great Bourbon flavor .

Hoping for some additional thirst quenching with this baby I saw on the sale table at my local. Don't rush out to get this, but if you see it for $2.00, like I did, might as well grab it and see what you think. Kind of a not great not bad beer. Cheers!

I've never participated in New Beer Sunday before, but everyone's got to start somewhere, eh? I absolutely love trying new beers. I love trying great beers, but I'm willing to give everything a shot.

Today, it's a cross-post (kinda) from WBAYDN, Ninkasi Vanilla Oatis. I've had the regular Oatis but never tried the vanilla before. Honestly, it's a decent stout, but I think the vanilla is just a little bit over-done. I gave it a 3.78 total, which in my book is not at all bad but somewhat flawed; in this case, it's the excessive vanilla which is the flaw. So -- worth a try, but probably not a re-buy.

Believe it or not, I've never had this local to me. Bell's revamped it's poorly (BA) rated pale ale with this new recipe.
Nice golden color with minimal head. Smell is grassy and pine. On first sip I notice it's silky smooth mouthfeel. Not sure how I feel about that on a pale ale. Easy drinking, nothing offensive but also nothing impressive. Middle of the road pale.

    Go Lions!

Still very disappointed that Schneider & Sohn let me down so badly last new brew. Time to reload, and start simple.

Wow, I'm very surprised and impressed. The dry-hop definitely comes through in the aroma, with big citrus and slight floral notes. However, once it's on the tongue, the hops sit back and really let the clean malt profile shine and, most significantly, the rye. Easily the most clear and noticeable rye presence I've had in a beer.

Very good and easy to drink, and my rating reflects that.

    New Lambic-Fruit Sunday

Cloudy day here in Northern Utah, mid-upper 20s snowing on and off. Did a little hike, when I got there it was a blizzard , about 10 mins. in, the snow stopped. We are starting to get New Belgium here in UT. Not a bad brew at all.

The distro seems funny. It hasn't hit my area, but I did run into it in Vermont. We get a solid representation of Founders here (oddly enough, since we don't get fuck all else), but not this one.

It's a shame because I think the Cuvee Barrique is a world-class sour. This one...not so much.

Good afternoon all. It's been a bit since I've posted here but I really thought this would be a nice brew to get me back in the game. What a great choice!

New Blood Orange Infused Gose Sunday!

First want to congratulate my friend @utopiajane for being BAOTY! If anyone deserves that Title, it's her. Congrats Maria! I'll send you some "Cousin" next week  (joking, bad enough I send beer.)

Ok enough brown nosing, time for the beer!

I'm not that excited over the Gose craze, but this one is close to one of my favorites in the style. First lets get down with Appearance, Aroma, Taste, Feel and Overall opinion. This brew pours golden body, partly cloudy with no chance of rain. There wasn't any head that formed from this, so it's not really exciting me in the appearance department. I'm going to take a whiff! First hits with waves of orange citrus and sanity. Like smelling a bag of saltine crackers! Not really any wheat characteristics, just salinity and Oranges. Its a very beautiful smelling brew! The flavor is first sweet with Blood Orange pulp and slight tartness to accent the sweetness. Follows with some salt that finishes dry and refreshing with slight sourness on the sides of the palate. Aftertaste is of Oranges and wheat cracker grains. The feel on this brew is accordingly to style, light body with prickly carbonation.

Overall: This is a Home Run for me in the Gose Style. I know it's kind of cheating with using Blood Oranges in the fermentation, but I like it! This is balanced in respects with salt/sour/sweetness they all don't overshadow one another. I could crush this all day long at a mid-summer's O's game, seriously it's only 4.2 ABV. I guess the only thing left for me to say is, this brew is Recommended!

    Grade: an A

I guess I can play a Musical Narration today for Ya NBS crew!
