booked plane tickets with aboslutely no plans! just thought it would be more fun to be somewhere else for a few days

anything LOW KEY happening aka not a ticketed event or not waiting in line to get in to a bar? i was thinking benders or zeitgeist would be a good idea... or am i crazy?

are there any cool events that are worth getting tickets for? i saw monks kettle is doing all you can drink and eat but 175 is too spendy for me and i wouldn't get my moneys worth (vegetarian and a lightweight!)

any ideas friends? or any ideas of what to avoid like the plague?

Zeitgeist for sure…a must! A great dive bar. They open early. Walk 15-20 minutes to Toronado (if you haven't been yet). After some fresh (and I mean really fresh & cheap) Pliny get on bus 6 or 71 down Haight St to Magnolia Pub/Brewery. Finish off the day taking taxi to Monk's. All in the same general area. The other day I would at least hit up Mikkellar bar. I flew into SFO from LAX and did the Zeitgeist-Monk's and back to LAX in the same day. And finished off at Anchor Bar in United terminal before boarding the plane.

La Trappe is doing a beer dinner (not surprisingly half the price of monks kettle). No menu posted but all items are available a la carte which might alleviate the vegetarian issue. I'll be down the street at Church Key (my gf will be behind the bar). It's a small space so it probably won't be too nuts.

i assume it will be crazy (like probably ever bar will be TBH) but maybe not... anyone know what its like on NYE?

im not looking for cool bar suggestions here, i already have a grasp of good places in SF and the places i enjoy, but I have no concept of what these places will be like on NYE

flaming lips is never really sold out. You can ALWAYS buys tkst at the show from scalpers lots and lots of them (soemtiems ppl int hr parking lot just give them away) and the interwebs aftermarket tkt broker thing is pretty reasonable too.
ive been to many FLIPS shows; trust me if you want a ticket you can get one without having to pay too much.

Mikkellar is not a ticketed event, and they have a few of the kegs listed on their website. Probably worth stopping by if you're in the neighborhood after 6pm

Toronado isn't that much of a madhouse on NYE, that's why I suggested it. It gets crowded but isn't out of hand and has quite a few regulars and cool beer people.

If I was in The City, that's where you would find me. And I'm not a fan of this holiday.
