I've been there and know just how amazing of a (beer)town it truly is. My main question though is whether any locals know if anything "hard to find" is around at the shops or if there is anything "special" going on in town at any of the various beer-related businesses. Occasionally, I've been lucky enough to find a rare beer through the help of BA when visiting places. Thanks for any advice or head's up you can give me.

Not an Asheville beer or particularly rare in NC (for the next few weeks anyway) but be sure to pick up some Event Horizon from Olde Hickory. Was released just before Christmas.

Yeah, I grabbed one the last time I was down there. Nice beer. Hearing good things about this year's batch, too. Thanks for the head's up. Pretty excited to crush everything within sight at The Funkatorium.

I'd check out thirsty monk while you're there. They've been doing things lately. Cheers!

I was just there on Friday, there was a store next to Thirsty Monk downtown that had Sierra Nevada Barrel aged Narwhale. I picked up a couple of bottles, but there were some left.

Appalachian Vintner is a bottle shop in Asheville that has some good stuff available (including Event Horizon as well as Duck Rabbit 10th anniversary anarchy). I was just there a few hours ago

Think I've heard Burial has Skillet Donut on tap starting tonight, which is a pretty awesome beer.

Thirsty Monk had BCBS and BCBW on tap as of today still. Also, fresh Jade IPA, Event Horizon, and Big Bad Baptist should be around. Oh and Burial has their Doughnut Skillet Stout on tap.

Burial tapped to skillet donut last night so go nuts. Was tasty. I wish the price point on the bottles was more realistic.

Thanks for all of the advice guys. Unfortunately, I missed most of it while travelling and I was there for less than 20 hours total since I had a certain NYE event in Charlotte to get to. Luckily, I still had a blast as usual in Asheville. I checked into Aloft which is a realy cool hotel and quickly rolled over to Hi-Wire to watch the UGA Bowl Game with a buddy that lives down there. Once they were rolling, we went down to the Funkatorium to get my sour fix. What a great place. Crushed some tasty apps there as well as some world class sours and then went over to Twig and Leaf to visit another friend. Decent place I guess, but kind of a bland environment. Couldn't shut it down for the evening without going to Wicked Weed. So, I quickly headed over there and had a few great stouts and then stumbled the 100 feet back to Aloft.

The next day I went over to Appalachian Vintners and dropped $400 on a variety of highly rated beers. I still haven't made it over to Bruisin' Ales, but I don't know that I ever will. The guys that run Appalachian Vintners have my business forever. Then, I went back over to Wicked Weed for lunch and more bottles to go. I bought around $240 of the sours to take home with me, drank a cherry saison that was pretty good, and had a decent lunch. What a great place though. Fantastic.

Overall, Asheville is one of those towns that you just have to experience. I'm in love with the place.

Heh, I'm going to assume you meant Twin Leaf across the street from the Funketorium.

I think I was the one who rang you up at Appalachian Vintner. Did you happen to buy a case of Event Horizon?

No, I didn't buy a case of that - just a few of them. I did drop $400 on a variety of beers that the guy at the counter suggested though. His name was Geoff (maybe you?) and was very helpful and even told me what sandwich shop to go to. I was the guy from KY who was going to catch a concert in Charlotte. Whether it was you or not,I can't recommend Appalachian Vintners enough. It is one of the first places I hit everytime I go to Asheville. Best bottle shop I've ever seen.

Nah, Geoff's my boss. Just thought it would be funny if I was the one ringing you up. And yeah, it's my favorite place in Asheville, period. So honored to work there.

I'm going to be heading into Asheville for the first time on Wednesday and can't be more excited! I will definitely have to come and check out Appalachian Vintner when I get into town.

I love App Vintner. Went there for the first time on 12/30. I went in just to grab an Event Horizon and some Duck Rabbit 10th anniversary, but ended up walking out with $150 worth of beer lol.
