Great news. Cannot wait to take the ride north.
You are kidding, right? The state is losing 1,100 jobs and 480 million dollars in revenue in the next ten years from the closing of VT Yankee alone. No jobs for young people, like Ireland are people are becoming are greatest export. Is IBM staying?

So, on perusing this map it looks like roughly 3 or 4 VT towns out of 251 have worse than US average employment rates. These towns are all sparsely populated and make up a miniscule part of VT's total warm bodies. In at least 2, I suspect the high population of retirees is to blame for the low rating. Yes, North Dakota looks a little better right now; check back in 6 weeks.

Interesting that VT towns with well known breweries look pretty good on this map.

Any thoughts on the latest batch of Focal Banger? I was disappointed compared to the October release. Two different beers IMO. The October batch was so pungent and aromatic. I hope they make some final tweaks before canning it.

My impression was a little less aroma but just fine on the tongue. Take that with a grain of salt because I have a dental issue (to be painfully resolved next week - upper wisdom teeth out at almost 54 yo) that has made my breath a bit foul for the last couple weeks and no doubt handicaps my nose.

Seems that they were granted a tentative permit as reported by the stowe reporter today:

    http://www.stowetoday.com/stowe_rep...cle_7bd9f042-906a-11e4-8133-2b3184891b18.html

"The Alchemist Brewery planned for Stowe has received tentative approval for a state wastewater permit.
That’s one of the last hurdles the brewery needs to clear before receiving an Act 250 development permit.
The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation issued the tentative permit. Now, it goes through a monthlong public comment period that will end Jan. 22"

Why the public needs to comment on a wastewater permit is beyond me.

Because the discharge pipe is in my back yard! Seriously, it's a matter of transparency. Substantive comments are exceedingly rare but it covers everyone's ass a little more, and once or twice per century the public brings up a valid point.

It took eight years for a local ski mountain to get Act 250 permission to build a twenty acre snowmaking pond.

Public comment period expired on Jan. 22nd; we're waiting for the Commission to act on a final now.

Short answer, @BoldRulerVT, is that we don't know exactly; it should be a matter of days. These processes seem interminable, but that is misleading. Good things have been actively going on behind the scenes to assure that the new brewery will be cutting-edge, exemplary, and a joy to visit, in addition to going above and beyond legal requirements. That is who the Kimmichs are as individuals, Stowe residents, and business owners. It's not just stalled in a closet somewhere in a state office building; the design team has been busy. Jen stated her opinion publicly last week that "Construction will begin in April pending final Act 250 permits."

John and Jen were also quoted last week in another interview by Edible Green Mountains similarly:

"This spring, The Alchemist will break ground for a brand new enterprise in Stowe which will contain a brewery, pub and retail space. Heady Topper will still be produced in Waterbury while Stowe will brew two additional flagship beers, Focal Banger and Holy Cow, as well as some seasonal offerings.

“We’re building a pretty cool thing that has surpassed our expectations. Barring any catastrophes, this new pub and brewery in Stowe will be there for another 400 years,” said Jen."

In the ad infinitum department: another small step forward... The draft pre-treatment wastewater permit that was issued in December had no public commentary during the 30 day period allowed. Consequently, the draft has now become the official approved final discharge permit, as of January 26th, and has been filed in the database. This is the last piece of the puzzle to complete the documentation for the Alchemist's Act 250 environmental impact permit. That permit has its own 30 day appeal period, now in process; pending that time elapsing, we should be good to go. Spring will be here soon!

Is this I'm assuming just a "pub" or on premise space for them to pour beers? From every interview I have read or watched I didn't think either of them were even remotely interested in running a full pub again?
