It's a sad state of affairs.

If there was no beer selling on ebay those beers would either be traded more reasonably on a trade forum, or consumed, maybe by your friends with you there. Whatever the case, ebay prices push people to want to squeeze more out of a trade, that explains part of it. The other part you explained yourself in second part of quote.

Interesting perspective here. A buddy received a bottle of KH a few months back in a trade, brought it over and we drank it. I had a glass and enjoyed it, but didn't think it was amazing by any stretch. Since then I've haven't really desired to trade for more, but seeing the beers its been pulling in has me tempted to give it a go, making me think I must've missed something the first time around. Funny how perceived rarity can get into your head.

I agree with everything you said, except when it was released it was a limit of 5 per person. Plus each person could buy one Vanilla and one Coffee.

That was Rare, not King Henry.

He must have read all this, and thought one of veterans saying it's overpriced would be very kind and trade him one...

I couldnt of said it better...

Thats one thing a lot of people keep saying about King Henry thinking its a "whale" because they say "even if they make King Henry again it wont be the same" (because of the PvW barrels previously holding Rare)

But to tell you the truth, I hope Goose Island does end up brewing King Henry again, and age it in fresh PvW barrels (that never held Rare), for I think it would be even better than the first King Henry. (no stout/chocolate qualities)

The only thing more annoying than the KH hype? All of the threads complaining about the KH hype.

It was merely an example; please insert beer X if that helps.

There are so many examples of beer Xs, all distributed. Just within Chicago's region-of-influence, I could list KBS, CBS, KH, BCBS, etc.

The world has changed for craft beer lovers. I personally don't mind all the demand from the growing movement of beer appreciators, as it gives incentive for brewers to keep making desirable beers. What galls me are the desperate measures people go through to clean out the shelves, not for drinking or sharing but for pure trade profit.

I could have bought a case of KH when it came out and would have if I realized how apeshit people were going to go over it. As it was I bought 4 or 5 bottles, traded most of them for some good stuff (certainly nothing outrageous though) and have one left to drink. It was easily acquired at first before the hype train hit, 13 bucks a bottle IIRC.
