Actually, I am really hoping for the fracking to begin....they have several plots of land picked out if they have to relocate and one of them (and hopefully their favorite) is in Niagara County. It would be super cool to drive 20 minutes, as opposed to 3 hours to Ommegang

In NY there is Southern Tier then everyone else. Nothing I would say is world class but ST is getting close.
Had the barrel aged Backburner and it was amazing.

It's on tap at macgregors east ave. oak aged back burner, right?

I would say that I enjoy Souther Tier the most until I read this. While I purchase and consume STBC the most, I also feel that Ommegang brings stuff to the table that surely no one in NYS, even many other breweries in the US can match. Impressive and irreplaceable.

You had it at the brewery right? (Only place you can get it AFAIK). I had it at Public Day last month and I thought it was quite good as well, but a LOT of bourbon. Phin said when they got the barrels there were pools of bourbon still in some of them, and it ended up raising the ABV from 9.6% to over 11%.

BA Backburner and BA Flight Level 410 are both stupidly good NY beers.

My vote for Best is Capt Lawrence
My vote for Favorite is Keegan Ales
My vote for Best of the New is Spider Bite
My vote for Best Brewpub with no distro is Peekskill Brewing

Not playing homer, huh? LOL. (that was for a chuckle, nothing more cavedave)(although I dont understnad the Keegan Ale vote)

I hate seeing these threads pop up (but it has been about 6-8 months since this specific one has reared its ugly head). I think that unless you have been to every single brewpub/brewery in the state then you really can not answer it honestly. Of course Southern Tier and Ommegang will always be at the top because they have the highest distribution and most(ly) quality of them all (commence the I Love ST/I Hate ST thread again). I work all over NY state and have visited over 40 of the brewpubs/breweries (notice, I didnt say try but actually visited) and still wouldnt answer this silly question. Let the in-fighting commence.

Growlers of back burner have led to more than one very embarrassing days for me. I've sworn that deliciousness off.

I'd say Southern Tier and Ommegang have consistently killed it for a long time with large solid lineups. You have places like CL and Ithaca bringing really, really fantastic stuff out in a smaller level. Then there are a ton of smaller up and coming places trying interesting things or just filling niche markets. It's a good time to be a BA in NY.

Ok didn't know they had a BA and Oakes version. I have never had the oak, just the BA and it was awesome.

I kinda like the ones that ask for people's opinions about good NY Breweries.

I'm a homer for sure, but not just for locals, I'm a homer for NYS beer in general. We are really starting to hit our stride.

I got an e-mail from Southern Tier saying it was over 14% ABV

No I had it at the rochester beer expo last weekend.

By the way - what the heck does AFAIK mean?

Yeah, had the oak version at the blue monk and could barely finish it.
The barrel aged version is incredible.

I even e-mailed the brewery to see if they had any sixtels for sale.

You're right, 14.1% I believe. That seems crazy for the bourbon to raise the ABV up that much.

Next time I am out your way, Ill have to drop off some new nano beer. They are slow coming out of the gates with production but are really hitting it off well....see if I can change that homer influence.
