    THIS x1,000!!!

It is without question the single best bottle opener I have. It doesn't even dent or fold the cap in half, which as we all know makes for pretty picture taking. It popped open my Prairie Bomb! last night with only 2 attempts.

Hit it with a lighter flame. Great presentation, ruins / changes nothing in the beer, dried wax wipes up clean and no fighting to cut through the wax.

The Cinnamon WnB required a steak knife, and a lot of patience. For some reason fire didn't cross my mind lol

pffft, katanas are made from pig iron*. Give me a Scottish Claymore any day, along with a running charge - when some psycho with a 6 foot long sword chops the top off a beer, that beer stays OPEN.

(* not quite pig iron, but they are actually very brittle as they are made from poor quality iron)

I sometime heat up my opener, and just pop it open.

Or I cut a nick out, and force my opener in there.

Need to have a Solid opener tho.

DO: Use any of the suggestions above

DON'T: Use a butter knife to cut through Surly bottle wax, have it slip and get an uneven gash in your finger, proceed to get drunk and accidentally dislodge the bandage a few times, and then end up with a nice bump/scar to remember the experience forever, knowing that it was a measly butter knife that won

Those wax-sealed bottles are still a mystery to me. I usually just slam the neck of the bottle on the edge of the counter and break it open. I usually get at least half of the beer using this method. Only a few glass shards in my throat too....I've become pretty good at it!

:astonished: Most sturdy metal openers will open the bottle right through the wax...never had an issue here and have opened dozens of waxed bottles with a variety of openers.

This is how I do it. Trying to remove all the wax is an exercise in frustration. Using a proper, heavy-duty bottle opener is key. Remove just enough wax to get leverage, and the bottle opener should do the job.

seriously, that is genius and i kick myself why i have not done this before. Last waxed bottle I had (wont name drop trust it was an uber whale bro) was super annoying to get off. I will probably try this on Ska decadent next time I open one.

@sierranevadabill I do wish the new estate bottles were waxed. Why not?

It's a damned if you do, damned if you don;t proposition. When we waxed, people complained it was too tough to get off. When we didn't we also get complaints. Frankly, it's sort of a pain to do on the production level and this year we had so many complex packaging tasks we opted to skip the waxing.

Put me down for no wax, especially on a beer meant to consume fresh

Happy New Year! Looking forward to all the fun stuff you guys are doing this year.

I hired a full time samurai to cut off the wax for me but after reading this thread i'm thinking i may be wasting my money...
Can anyone tell me the safest way to tell a samurai they are fired or should i start a new thread for this?
