Anyone know when they are making Flying Mouflon again?

I never understood the hype for this beer. It's good - but it's generally $12 or more for a six pack here, and it's just not THAT good. More for the people who love it, I suppose.

Is $12 a six pack all that god awful of a price? You might not agree that it's as good as Hopslam or Heady, but both those cost significantly more for example. I think $48 for a case of NN is actually pretty reasonable.

Well, it's been $12 since I first heard about the beer 6-7 years ago. I expect it's actually higher now. And for a beer that doesn't blow you away, it is a god awful price. I can buy Two Hearted or Torpedo - both beers that I enjoy far more - for $8-9. And I wouldn't touch Hopslam or Heady if I saw either on a shelf by me. I've had both, and neither are worth their respective price tags to me.

$13+ here and I doubt I'll be buying it this year. If I want a hoppy troegs beer, I think both Perpetual and Hop Knife are better (and much cheaper).

Respectfully disagree. Perpetual is good, but it's not NN good. Hopknife is not even in the same conversation IMO.

Is it the new thing to bash NN now? Seems that way. Has it been inconsistent since they moved to their new brewery? Yes. When it's "on" is it still a world class beer? Yes.

I dig NN, and will look for this the next time I am in a place where Troegs is sold (e.g., Ohio).

Keith, I will certainly state that I will buy at least one case of Nugget Nectar this year (again).

I suppose I should also caveat that over the past few years I was fortunate to never experience any of the bad batches of Nugget Nectar.

    Happy New Years!

It was $16 in OH about 3-4 years ago, when I really liked it. In the past couple years it hasn't been nearly as impressive IMO. Ironically enough, the prices last year (and maybe the year before) all went down to about $11-12 a six pack.

    From Tröegs e-mail:

    Nugget Nectar
    [IMG]
Get ready to squeeze those hops for all they’re worth! Now that 2015 has arrived, one thing seems to be on everyone’s mind: Nugget Nectar. We’re gearing up to release our Imperial Amber Ale beginning onMonday, January 12. Look for cases and six-packs of 12-ounce bottles, 1/2- and 1/6-kegs, and 4-packs of brand new 16-ounce cans to appear in retailers first throughout Central Pennsylvania, followed by regional release dates across our entire distribution footprint throughout January and February. With this year’s release in 16-ounce pounders, Nugget Nectar joins Troegenator, Perpetual IPA and Sunshine Pils in the family of Tröegs beers packaged in cans. Nugget Nectar will deliver hopheads to nirvana with a heady collection of American hops. Drenched with a healthy dose of the freshest hops we’re able to source, Nugget Nectar is further intensified with additional whole flower Nugget hops added to our hopback vessel, resulting in an explosion of citrus, resin and pine.

A bummer that the cans seem not to be available by the case. Oh well.

Cans will be available for the case, in six four packs in a single tray.

Good to know. The news release on their website was worded in a way that led me to believe the cans would only be sold by the 4 pack (which I guess you could just buy 6 of them but hopefully it's slightly cheaper to get the case than a 6x 4 pack price)

Ive had it reasonably fresh, and wasn't bowled over, I wouldn't trade for it for example. I'd love to get it 10-14 days old to really give it a fair shot.

Something I posted in a past thread:

“I bought a case from the first distribution round (beer bottled on 2/14/12). I noticed that these beers got ‘better’ with a couple of weeks of age. I got a case from the second distribution round (beer bottled on 3/13/12) last week. I drank two bottles from the two batches ‘back to back’; I much preferred the older beer. I still have a few bottles of the 2/14 batch left. I will drink them first and let the second batch ‘cellar’ for one more week before drinking those beers.

I have read numerous times that Vinne Cilurzo of Russian River states that he thinks the bottled versions of Pliny the Elder is ‘best’ after three weeks in the bottle. I am starting to think that Nugget Nectar also benefits from a few weeks of extra time in the bottle.”

    Cheers!

Not only do I agree, but I think it's funny when BAs quibble over a couple of dollars per six-pack. This is not a price-sensitive hobby.

I think Klimmish says his beers are best at about 8 weeks old. I've had some older HT and if I didn't know the canning date I would have never thought about their age, no difference at all. But there are some brews to my palate at least when the age they turn malty, overly sweet, I can damn near take a sniff and know. I'm not talking a lot of age here either over 30 days or so maybe up to 60, not that's its undrinkable, it's just lost that snap it had at say two weeks. IMO Pliny suffers here, most IPA's that rely on citra or other really fruity hops seem to be affected sooner than later. I've had 2 month old NN and wasn't impressed, could be it's just the beer and not the age in and by itself.
