I wouldnt mind as long as:

they were cleaned properly before the next use
    they were not broken

of course, once they get broken, then its time to go shopping for a replacement

I prefer my beer glasses be used only for beer, and I have separate cabinets for my collection. That is the distinction I make though...my glasses are part of a collection, part of my hobby. Please have the respect to ask me before using them. Usually I have no objection, because people love the "novelty" of them. Am I jerk? Maybe, but I try to be as accommodating as possible.

No and no. When you take the trouble to get specific beer ware others should respect it. I don't make a point of telling guests that they can't use a particular glass but I find it a bit odd when they do as the beer glassware is kept separate from our regular glassware. But then I would find it odd if a guest went into our wine glassware cabinet and took a glass out for OJ. Some guest will always stitch the limit. I do my best to only think bad thoughts and keep my mouth shut. My wife has been training (and retraining) me for years.

    Beer and water.

And the water is for rinsing them.

As someone earlier said, I have my glasses on the top shelf...out of reach from the rest of the family.

I am just like you: separate cabinet, only for beer, etc. It just means you care.

^ My answer as well. I have all my glassware on the top shelf. I dont have a problem with people using them. They are "Me" reserved only.

I wish I could like this twice. Beer is too important to half-step.

I have 7 Pokals my mom bought me a set for my b-day one year, I rarely ever drink beer that I feel would be suited for such a glass, so we use those for Irish-Carbombs. However all my other glasses/steins are beer only in my house. Which makes it 20 times more rewarding for my daughter when I have restaurants bring her OJ in a tulip glass  .

I have more brewery pint glasses than others (e.g. snifter, tulip, teku). I personally use the pint glasses for water. The others are used only for beer. When I have guests, they don't even go for the specialty glasses.

I'm not really OCD like that, but I do have a few stoneware mugs that I only use for coffee and stouts/porters.

I feel like it's my own way of infusing traces of coffee into all my dark beers!

I cringe but keep quiet when my wife uses a tulip for a smoothie, but I think something inside her knows I'm cringing. I've got a double standard though, as I have poured beer into wine glasses at other people's homes.

This in kind of a non issue for me.

Generally speaking my beer glasses are for beer. But I have used my 4oz taster glasses for OJ or shaker pint glasses for water when I've run out of clean glasses. Admittedly I would find it odd if someone wanted to use a tulip or weissbier glass for something other than beer. But I can't say it would bother me. Alternatively, I've used champagne glasses for framboise, krieks, etc.

Ensuring that glasses are only used for their intended purpose is not something I lose sleep over.

The only glasses that pull multiple duties in my home are pint glasses. All tulips, snifters, tasters, etc... are in special no-go cabinet. And I guess I really do this so a glass of more value has less risk of getting broken.

They can use the standard pint glasses, that I have too many off anyway, for whatever they want. Prefer no one touches my 'nice' glassses unless I specifically tell them it's OK or, preferably, I pull them out and serve them. In the long run it's not that big a deal but if you mess up the a$$ groove on my La-Z Boy, then we've an issue.

You want to talk about anal, one of my pet peeves is that if I find a beer I really like and drink on a regular basis, I want to buy a glass from the brewery and only drink that beer from the brewery glass. If it's a beer that has it's own glass, I want to drink that beer from the glass with the beer's name and logo on it.
So enjoy your beer glasses as you wish and cheers!

Beer in wine glasses, or vice versa, I don't blink an eye at. But something with a fat content (I'm not sure your wife's smoothies would fall under that umbrella) is where the line is for me. Those would have to be washed like crazy and then rinsed like crazy for me. Maybe even repeat the process . Any oil residue will have an impact on the beer- even if it's just about the head formation/retention- so that's just a no starter.

But, soda, wine, lemonade...that's fine. It generally doesn't happen, though, because I just happen to keep all of my stems at the bar downstairs and out of sight .

Sometimes I'll grabbed a shaker pint for water or whatnot, and we had friends over last night and one used a shaker pint for a mixed drink. I don't have a problem with it; they clean out just fine. That said, using a tulip or an oddly shaped glass for such purposes doesn't make sense. I've only seen this happen with shaker pints.
