Who was supposed to send Dave a box in BIF and why did he never get it? To resolve, have that person send that missing box to winner instead of Dave, problem solved.

    Exactly right.

Is this a league where you don't have to communication? How come no one noticed dave dropped off the earth, and didn't participate at all? How come he didn't get box he sent one out should he not have gotten a box too? Sounds like he got missed there. he reached out and got nothing what's he supposed to do at that point?

My last thought and I'm done here. I don't think anyone is a bad guy here if I did i would say so, not that it would count for much, but would just be my simple opinion. looks like a simple lack of the ability to communicate for whatever reason, sometimes shit happens and I believe this to be the case here no intention to screw anyone.

As jrnyc mentioned someone owes dave a box, have them ship it ahead to the winner done deal, end of story. Use phone numbers to back up emails sometimes things change.

We had a similar situation in @sternamagrapha7x 's FBB league where somebody never drafted and was clearly not involved. I don't think he ever sent a box though.

My $0.02 is that while it's a bit lame that whoever won the league is getting shorted a box, theoretically they had better odds of winning because somebody didn't participate. The "expected value" did not change by somebody backing out of the league.

Given the circumstances with Dave getting shorted a box to begin with, making at least some communication attempts, and his general reputation, maybe we just take this as a lesson learned?

We should be careful mixing trading/BIF ethics with fantasy football ethics. Dave is owed a box. Dave owes a box. In my view, he is responsible for the box he owes, and his previous sender is responsible for the box he is owed. It appears the guy who owes him a box is now MIA, but as we have seen time and time again, we have a quite generous community here that could "rectify" that situation. To me, it sounds like the issue is that Dave was a fantasy football newbie and probably didn't understand how frustrating/damaging an absent member can be to a FFB league. Cuzco has run enough of these leagues that he is pretty adept at making sure boxes get to the right place, so I believe him that he didn't see the messages. I also believe that Dave sent the messages. Both of these BAs have plenty of reputation/history here that they should be given the benefit of their mutual assumptions.

To me, joining a FFB BIF is no different than joining a round-robin Cans only, or locals only, or stouts only BIF. If you join, you commit yourself to sending a box. You expect also to receive a box. There are numerous mechanisms we have all seen to ensure you're taken care of if you don't get a box, but refusing to send yours creates a domino effect that ruins a BIF from that point forward.

Slippery slope since I've seen both of these guys around. I'd say shake hands, make sure appropriate boxes are sent/received (with our help if necessary), and move on. Don't like to see the old guard firing at each other.

Pretty much every fantasy league has people that don't participate at one time or another...bottom line once you sign up if your team is drafted your responsible for it whether you want to play or not. You took that spot in a league away from someone else who may have been more engaged and followed through with their commitment. We had plenty of instances this year in the pick em league of people not doing their picks and everyone still expected them to send the boxes out they owed.

^^^^ I think @jshusc highlighted it best how this should be handled

Dearest Sender who ever you may be,

I am very thirsty and really could have used your box week one when my
Pats took a divisional loss and my Fantasy team took a pounding. I have
no doubts you are crafting a box for me I just hope it shows up before I
    start spitting sand from dehydration.

    Sincerely your dehydrated target.

Seriously? Almost three weeks into the season, too. How is there not a locked roster right now?

Nate is in the know and was working on this for me. He mentioned my sender was scouring the trade board to land me a KBBS so I guess it will be worth the wait.

    Cheers!

Having been one of the individuals who received a delayed box in the league I can attest that @Cuzco was very attentive and responsive to my requests in getting a box sent out. I had no issues with direct communication and I also was unaware that @cavedave did not receive a box. That being said the situation that he did not receive his box certainly sucks and I understand his frustration.

That being said @cavedave is supposed to be sending to me for my 3rd place finish and assuming he is up for sending me the box, I would be willing to send him a box that will hopefully make up for his poor experience from the beginning including the brewery and football swag of course.

If the situation is beyond repair no worries just thought I would offer it up. What say you @cavedave?

    Awesome gesture...

Can we go ahead and call out @BDavidson14 as the deadbeat BA who caused all this mess as well? I'm not expecting him to respond anyways, but at least we can warn others... this guy looks like he has zero completed trades, hopefully there was some kind of screening before letting him into the league with zero feedback... he also claims he works for a Seattle area brewery in one of his old posts on BA, maybe someone in the NW knows who this guy is?

Thanks for the understanding and willingness to help out. I will let you know more if I hear anything else. I will be handling more of this through BM as well.

If anyone knows @BDavidson14 it would be great if they can let me know via BM.

I was going to start another thread about him but I guess this is as good a place as any.

Again if I would have known Dave didnt get a box and the other guy flaked out I would have driven a box of beer to him.

From my "3rd party observer" seat, it looks like there's a consensus that as long as Dave is made right, and Dave makes right (either potentially with the help of the community, though I think it's easy to guess which box needs some help), there is no fault there.

It looks also like there is definite fault from this @BDavidson14 character, who has shorted Dave a box, and presumably lost the league and owes a box there as well. By my count, that's 0 boxes owed by Dave (that he hasn't offered in this thread to send out) and 2 boxes owed by @BDavidson14. Can we change the thread title to be "Bad Trader Alert: @BDavidson14", and move on to discussing what can be done to fix that situation?

There's already been a couple offers from spectators as well as Dave's own target, and I'll throw my hat in that ring as well if it's needed, I'd be honored to help out a member of the community I respect as much as him.

Is it time to mobilize? Do we wait until Dave sends a box to the winner he's assigned (@UcDru if I saw correctly)? FWIW my $0.02 is that waiting for his performance is customary but unnecessary in this particular case, though I expect that my $0.02 is just that or less. What say you, powers that be?

definatly a lesson learned this year in both football and baseball i think i was in leagues that had people flake out at the end. i think for the upcomming baseball and football seasons, i will propose or impose if i choose to commish a league, is that a buy in of 50$ be put in at the start, and at the end of the year, when the winner gets the tracking info from a player that money will be refunded back to each person as they ship their boxes. if someone flakes on shipping a box, then the winner gets that persons money.

As long as the commish is a respected member of the community, I think that's a good way to do it; if it's someone with little or no trade history that might be a bit sketchy. I don't know you personally so I'm not putting you in either camp, just making a general point about one person holding funds in escrow.

Do fantasy sites have a league dues escrow function?

    Lulz....

until Dave ponies up the box of beer he owes and committed to, he is still shady. If someone else sends the box, dave still bailed on his commitment.

Looks to me like he missed the draft, didnt like he team, and found a great excuse to bail on the league.

There are websites that offer holding money in escrow for fantasy leagues but I'm not sure what kind of fees they charge

You of course are entitled to your own opinion; mine (and that of some others in this thread) however is that Dave has earned, through years of generosity and productive contribution to the site, the benefit of the doubt.

You can consider him shady all you like, I'll continue assuming that with an amicable solution in place (and likely even without one) he'll make good.

he should have made good before getting called out.

clearly he has earned the benefit of the doubt and I believe that he got his fair share in this thread.

but it shouldnt take getting called out to pay your debts.

I'm assuming he owes you. If so, what is required in the box to make this right? Is there something I can do to "pony up" his end.
