A really good customer of our shop came in two weeks ago and just dropped one in my lap. He sister sent him two, he knew I liked BWs so he gave me one. I nearly cried and hugged him. Those who have had it, you know, those who haven't, holy shit you're in for a treat.

Thanks for the good will. Had a few trade offers, they were all very one-sided (USD $50+ value + shipping expenses...) so I bailed.

Did I read that right? $50+ the $30 retail price + shipping? Fuck me!! Trading scene is in the toilet if that is the case. I want no part of that scene.

If I were there, I would trade straight up even Stephen face value. I may forget about this conversation, so tell your phone to have you check in with me in a 5-6 weeks. Or at shorter intervals if you like. Good chance I will be in Anchorage at some point this winter, best chance latter half of February. Almost certainly in the next couple of months. I could have a proxy pick one or some up now for consummation of interaction later if it is still on shelves. I think it is.

I guess the capitalization of trading is the norm these days, but when I trade I trade even value. I will not take a profit from my ability to buy DWTD or anything else. It wasn't so long ago that I wasn't such an outlier. Keep in touch.

I'm sorry to hear this. I'm not going to say I haven't gotten some pretty great trades for ADWTD, but I can also say that none of them came out in my favor $4$ with the exception of some shelf beers, in that case they were extras sent.

I mistyped; I meant to say they wanted me to send them a 50 plus dollar value trade (so, 20 over its core value), plus the shipping. So, not nearly as bad as it sounded! But still, I thought, a bit much considering they were all sending a single bottle. :/

The first batch was corked and the second is capped? Just wondering if they are switching all bottles or just this?

The biggest issue with the Deal release is that is is completely overshadowing Darkest Hour, holy smokes is this batch incredible. I actually found batch 2 ADWTD way to sweet. Darkest Hour batch 2 i found to be much better than the first batch.

i think a side by side needs to be done with both these beers!

if you see darkest hour, defintily pick up a bottle

I couldn't agree more! Although, they are two totally different beers, different styles, so it's kind of unfair to judge them side-by-side. Both excellent beers for sure! I would take a Darkest Hour over almost any other Imperial Stout I've ever had.
Also, if you try batch one and batch two of ADWTD side-by-side you will see that this years is not that much sweeter.

I picked up a darkest hour because it was actually a reasonable price for a barrel aged stout

Cool, thanks. Some family were in Juneau last week and grabbed me another DWTD, along with a Darkest Hour and Calabaza Boreal. The latter two came from Percy's; not sure where they found the DWTD.
