Uh what? There are 12 beers on tap and they wouldn't even bother trying more? That tells me everything I need to know.

Fusel alcohol is what's produced when a beer is fermented too hot at first. The ipa's tasted extremely boozy and astringent. I didn't try any of the stouts at all as I'm not a huge stout person. I've had plenty of higher abv IPAs and the ones I tried at other half didn't hide the booze well at all. I would describe hoppy as well, an ipa. Victory dirtwolf for a widespread example is pretty hoppy, you taste the hops. I got next to no hop flavors from the IPAs I tried other than all green everything which was vaguely fruity but again seemed like an ipa that had been on a shelf for months. The flavors seemed very muted. Maybe maltier IPAs aren't my style but I've had enough beer that I usually find something I like about a beer. These ones had no redeeming qualities for me. Maybe I'm crazy. Since t appears they are getting a lot of recognition. I just don't really know why after my experience with their beer wasn't very good.

Gotcha. It sounds like it's just a matter of preference, and no one brewery - or company for that matter - can please everyone. I am surprised your friends didn't finish their flights either. I happen to really enjoy their In Absentia Luci stout because of how dry and doughy it is, like bakers dark chocolate.

Ah sorry I misunderstood you. Yeah I can't say I get those astringent flavors from their beers.

I didn't try their stouts. Stuck with the ipa's as I heard and read that's what they do best. I was surprised I wasn't into the beers but for everyone else with me to not be as well is weird. I was pretty bummed I really wanted to like them. I just didn't.

The IPAs they had on tap this weekend weren't your typical West Coast styles but looking at some of your reviews makes me think u are a hard person to please with ipas (ex. Jai Alai and Two Hearted). Sometimes it's hard to judge a beer by just a small flight (although pretty good size pours at OH).

Yeah. Their style just might not be for me. I loved everything else about the visit. The music, the space, ect. Unfortunately just not the beer. I would certainly try it again someday but wouldn't go out of my way to make a trip there or anything

Funny, I know I haven't tried any recent batches, but one of the best things about All Green Everything to me is the clean and alcohol free flavor profile that showcases both late and early addition hops very balancedly, and is dry hopped to a dream. I am surprised at your reaction, but everyone enjoys things their own ways. If we didn't there would only be one beer style made one way. Am gonna be down early next month, I now am curious to give all the beers you mention by name a try to see if there has been some change with process or ingredients to account for what you describe.

I love OH and their tap room, and what they're doing for the NY beer scene, but their beers have sometimes been hit or miss for me. I know the AGE gets all the critical acclaim, but the few times I've had it, I wasn't blown away. Solid, but not amazing. The Cool Summer Bro was just a weird experience for me. Way too funky... but I think we came to the conclusion maybe I just have a sensitivity to certain aromas. The Nelson IPA was just okay. The best OH beer I've had is the Superfun! which I haven't seen in a while. Enjoyed the Doug, even though I'm not really in black IPAs. Regardless, I've tried (and enjoyed) almost everything they've put out in the last year and I think we can all agree they are bringing some well deserved attention to the NYC brewing scene.

I agree @taestee with your AGE comment, solid but not my favorite of their IPAs. For my palate, I think Citra and Hop Showers are the best beers they produce. I love going as well and am happy to have them in the area.

Let me know if you notice a difference. Maybe when I was there there could have been a difference in the kegs or tap lines or something. Like I said it wasn't just me it was everyone I was with. I feel like something had to be off for the beer to taste how it did.

I had a growler of AGE on New Years, it was fantastic. Saw a reference to Dirt Wolf in another post here, I found Dirt Wolf to be way too boozy for me, I dont find AGE boozy at all and it is 10.4% abv.

Everyone has different tastes. I think too when beers are breweries in general get hyped, hard to live up to hype no matter how good the beer is. Also. for OH hoppy beers, aside from AGE, the ones they have on now are not their best.

This might have been answered before but any idea why they never post anywhere what is on tap? Takes one minute to take a picture and post on Twitter/Facebook. Just helpful to know as I cannot just head there anytime I want.

Had the In Absentia Luci Red Wine BA Stout last weekend and it was one of the best beers and definitely the best stout I've ever had from them. Hope it's still on this weekend.

They're still open 12-5 on Saturdays right? Planning on getting there right at noon.
