As far as UPS and Fedex, it's not illegal but is against policy. I trade marinades and enter contests nationwide lol

USPS flat rate boxes are your friend. $50 insurance and a tracking number. I trade homemade vinegar. My USPS guy is so intrigued with all my fancy vinegars....it's hilarious.

#1 rule of beer shipping is not to ship via USPS. Also, no reason at all to send certified. Do some research on the trading forum to avoid some of these rookie mistakes you are making.

I use fedex. Make a FedEx account and print your labels at home. It is cheaper then having a shipping center do it. Then all you have to do is just drop it off at a shipper center with no questions. Or schedule to have fedex pick it up at your house. I had a bottle break once, and I pack my boxes insanely well, when I got the box back it looked like they drop kicked it. I ended up getting a call from fedex saying that I should not be shipping beer and got a scary letter in the mail. I did some searching and others have gotten the same letter. Consensus was that the letter was so fedex can cover their ass in case something happens. I now either use 2 gallon ziplock bags or put all the beers in a sealed trash bag so if there is a break it is all contained. Good luck.

A lot of good info here, but I disagree with the never use USPS thing. Many of us do, getting a box from New Hampshire to San Francisco in 2 days is great, and I have shipped and received many without issue. Bag it and pack it secure and USPS is as safe as anyone else...

Agree. I've shipped with them on 75% of my trades and no issue. I pack well....and they discount. Actually had two bottles break where they repackaged it as well.

Bbq sauce and ceramic art, need to set up an account and print labels though, maybe a company logo. Still won't beat a scanner, but it might be easier.

I say I make homemade hot sauce I send to friends, the UPS people asked me to try it a couple times so I found an obscure bottle of hot sauce, tore the label off and brought it in for them to try. Now they are asking me if they can buy some!

Shipped USPS once. Package was shipped from California to Colorado back to CA sender (because could not find address) then back to Colorado (now they figure it out instead of finding out ahead of time). I use Fedex and have used UPS with no issues. I ship action figures, glassware, and ceramics.

Best to use Fedex account or, if shipping just a couple times I go to a third party shipper for Fedex. don't ask questions of what Im shipping and can get boxes or packaging supplies at the same time. Just need to fill out a form. Good Luck OP

most of the time there is a bottle of bbq sauce in any box I ship. I also have dropped a bottle of sauce off with my fed ex guy before.

    keep up appearances.

Once is as small a sample as you can get....have shipped and received hundreds of boxes, only break was through FedEx. I don't hold it against them (though it was a bottle of Hill Farmstead that was double boxed), one problem doesn't mean much. I can see your hesitancy, but USPS is as good as the others...

Thats true it was a small sample. But it was the first shipment that missing since I started trading and also the first time I did not ship UPS or FedEx. (So technically, 100% of my packages had been delayed:grimacing: .)More of an exaggeration but since I have been more comfortable with FedEx. I sent the trader a make up box for the delay thru FedEx and made it ok. Maybe just the select city there was some issue. I am not opposed to USPS and might try again.

I did have an issue receiving a box from FedEx that was delivered to the wrong house so that can happen to. UPS no issues I experienced but I have not shipped or received too much from UPS.
