Probably in the minority, but I am disappointed that Flipside is out. That was a nice beer on the deck with leaves turning colors. The beer was a beautiful red, hoppier than a Marzen. I am in no hurry to get to that season but I could at least look forward to that beer!

I had a couple of pints at the Victory Brewpub. Within the context of Altbier I thought it was a good beer. Within the context of Sticke Alt I thought the beer was lacking.

My understanding is that the Hop Ticket Sticke Alt was a draft only product.

    Cheers!

I'll buy some. I keep finding my fridge with more and more SN stuff. But I shouldn't panic when I look at that calendar and I don't see the beer camp pack, right? Right!?!?!?

I'm in! I drink Oktoberfest beers year-round! I could care less on way or another if they are seasonal!
    Drinking some more tonight!

I like the idea of SN making a stand alone Oktoberfest. I quite enjoyed the Oktoberfest in the fall pack this year but I'm sure the forthcoming renditions will be choice as well

I missed that fall pack this year, so I'd enjoy finding the OF this coming year...

I enjoyed the hell out of Flipside along with ruthless rye. I also was a huge fan of Glissade as a solid spring beer that still had some umph to help you get through the cool winter/spring nights. I'm glad they came out with an oktoberfest this year and thought it was delicious as hell.

Im confused. If you think its a good Alt, then why not a Sticke? The recipes are very similar, its the ABV that changes.

No Beer Camp pack this year. We'll probably never do a 12-beer mixed pack again (that damn near killed many of us) and instead of the beer camp mixed pack in the summer that we formerly did, we're choosing one beer each year and making that our Spring (Q1) seasonal: Hoppy Lager is an example.

IMO a Sticke Alt is more than just a higher ABV Alt.

I think that Matt Cole describes it well here:

“Sticke Alt is a more intense version of altbier. These “secret beers” are brewed stronger, are slightly darker, and are dry-hopped in the conditioning tank for four to six weeks. The result is a bittersweet, ultra-crisp ale with a fresh, flowery aroma. These traditional brews are available once or twice a year, usually in September and January. I was fortunate enough to taste Sticke Alt straight out of the aging tank at the Uerige brewery. It was possibly the best beer I have ever tasted.”

    http://byo.com/stories/item/1205-old-world-alt

Phil Markowski also has a great description in The Oxford Companion to Beer:

“These special Altbiers are notably more assertive in hop-character when compared with the traditional Altbier and other German styles. Hop bitterness in a typical Sticke can be as high as 60 IBUs compared with a range of 30-40 IBUs in more conventional Altbiers.”

In contrast to what is discussed above, the Victory Hop Ticket Sticke Alt tasted to me like an Altbier with a higher ABV.

    Cheers!

Depends on which Altbiers you are comparing. "Regular" Uerige has around 50 IBUs, so not much less than the Sticke with 60. Regular Uerige is also considerably darker and more bittersweet than something like a Schluessel or a Schumacher (which would have IBUs in the 30s or 40s).

Oh man. Wow. What a great time to be a SN fan. Sorry BBC but SN has won more dollars from me and looks like even more this fall. Loving the Hoppy lager and can't wait for the Hop Hunter.

True...but even though they have grown (and will continue to do so) Boston Beer Co.is still as much 'craft' as anyone.

I liked Ruthless and Flipside but that lineup is still all sorts of solid

Did I see a 12oz. can of Torpedo on the SN beer release calendar @sierranevadabill ? 12 pack cans of Torpedo new for this year? That would be fantastic!

SN just be killin' it. Slightly sad to see Flipside go, but it's hard to bitch about anything with that line-up.

I'm really excited to see Kellerweis still there. @sierranevadabill, the word on the street for some time has been it was in danger of discontinuation due to slow sales. Can you confirm that? It would be a tragedy.

I'm really pumped to try Hop Hunter. Also love all of the Harvest series. I hope the Yakima #291 will be back for the first single hop. Anyone know what's going to be in the summer mix pack?
