Or even "Top Beers - Asia"?
Japan, especially, is producing some really high-quality craft beers, and I think it should be recognized on a global scale.
If BA would promote it as such, it could explode even more rapidly.
Companies such as Hitachino, Baird, Minoh, Hakusekikan, Swan Lake, etc... can easily be put on the same level as many produced in Australia, France, or other contenders.

What do you say, BA guys? BA community?

I guess not France, but Canada and Scandinavia both have their categories.

You can check Beer Styles for a couple Japanese listings, but my guess is it wasn't a booming market when the site was made.

Only about 15-20 reviewers here in Australia. Have thought for a while that it should be an Australasia top beers. More Japan and NZ beers see US distribution than Australian beers.
A little bit of Mountain Goat hits the US and Coopers gets almost full distribution.

I would love to see a top beers list for "rest of world", all places not covered already. Australia & New Zealand together in one list would also seem to work well.

It's kind of tough with such a U.S. dominated site. I'm sure there are some great beers being produced in Japan & the rest of Asia but, for the most part, only the crap gets imported (with a few notable exceptions). Since the top beer list would inevitably be largely influenced by what we Americans can get our hands on, it would probably end up being something a Japanese craft beer fan would laugh at, i.e. Kirin Ichiban in the #5 spot or every Hitachino beer being in the top 10.

    Shigg85,

I totally agree with you that Japan is producing some high-quality beers. I'd also dare to boast Japan is already recognized on a global scale.

Four different Japanese breweries took two gold, one silver, and one bronze in this years Brewer's Association-sponsored Beer Cup!

So definitely - promote, promote, promote!

Shigg85, you in Tokyo? Whereabouts? I'm in Zushi (Yokohama) - check out my website if you're inclined.

I believe it is because for a long time (perhaps even still the case now) that there were not enough beers with enough reviews to make such a list statistically meaningful.

Thanks for all your replies! I appreciate it! I agree that it would probably be dominated by Hitachino (which is no doubt an amazing company), but I would still like to see, as you mentioned, a "rest of the world" category at least.

I live in Saitama and work in Tokyo everyday. I mainly hit up Popeye, Vivo!, Baird Harajuku, and Bulldog for my beers on tap, and Tanakaya, Seibu, Tobu, and Isetan for bottled stuff.

That's a bit like the top 100 UK list from my friends and my own perspective

Not saying there is too much 'crap' on there but there are plenty of beers in the UK top 100 that we wouldn't get excited about/seek out and a number of beers we never see in the UK, ie - US export only beers

It is in the main a list of UK beers that are exported and readily available in the US!

The purpose of a Top 100 list, which one would think would be highlighting the best of the best a given region has to offer, is seriously undercut when that region is made too small. When a beer only needs a score in the mid-3s to make the list, it's hard to see the point in "honoring" such mediocre beers.

The Australia list in particular stands out as being next to worthless, as it only takes a 3.37 weighted average to make the "best beers" list. I have a feeling that a Japan-only list would have precisely the same problem, and don't see the value in keeping either particular list limited to an area that gets so few reviews of its beers.

I would love to see either a combined Australasia region (i.e., Australia, NZ, Japan) and/or a Rest of the World one. Ideally every craft brewery in every country should be able to place a good beer on a regional list...but it should have to be a genuinely "good" beer.
