There is no reason not to buy it. Even if ALL the coffee is gone, you'll have aged regular BCBS. And of all the coffee beers I've had (a lot of them), I've never had one where the coffee was completely gone. And I'm betting you'll think there's a ton of coffee flavor since you've never had it before. Pull the trigger on this! If not, I'll paypal you the money and you can send it to me.

Personally, I wouldn't trade or buy for coffee stout more than 1 year old. BCBCS falls off pretty quick and hits its best spot at about 7 months when all the flavors really come together. The 2011 might still be good, but if you're looking for coffee, do not get it.

If you go in expecting or thinking it will taste like regular BCBS, why not just buy some of that?

Then most definitely drink one now or at least not wait too many months. It's really personal preference as to whether or not it is too hot now (I don't think so) but in general I don't think it makes sense to age beer without having a fresh one to form a basis of comparison.

I had a 2011 and 2012 and the coffee was still pretty nice in both. Everything was so smooth! Delicious!!!

Yeah, I love them when they are "hot". I think most BA beers are not "hot" enough.

I agree, Bourbon County is great fresh, but becomes otherworldly with time fading the burn.

Have had 2013 a couple times recently and it seems to have turned into a mocha chocolate bomb. coffee faded a bit, but still fairly present. depends on what you usually drink for coffee I guess.

I've had mixed experience aging bcbcs. I've had some where it was still great but with slightly less coffee flavor. I also had a 2010 bomber that I opened about a year ago that was a complete drain pour. The coffee flavor had turned into an old coffee acidic mess. From my experience regular bcs drinks the best with at least a year on it, but I enjoy the coffee most as fresh as possible.

I've had two years old BCBCS and it was actually getting hotter, and the coffee definitely faded. I'd say one year is prime as the coffee overpowers the other flavors when fresh.

I have the reverse problem. I have the '11 Bcbcs and don't know if I should drink it or trade it?

I had 2013 coffee on draft and the coffee was faded.

Did a '12-'14 BCBCS vertical on X-Mas with the fam and '12 was drinking fine, as were the other two. If the coffee faded in either '12 or '13, it wasn't substantial at all. They still tasted like BCBCS, although slightly different than one another.

Fwiw, I cellar in boxes with basically no light hitting the beer. I've heard people say that if you don't refrigerate BCBCS that the coffee with totally fade and the beer will taste like standard BCBS...BS.

I'd go for it. I had a 2012 recently and it was drinking phenomenally. I actually preferred it to the 2014 coffee. Going to do a 2012-2014 mini-vertical soon to compare the past 3 years. If I saw 2011 on the shelf somewhere I'd snap it up. And hey, if you don't want it, shoot me a BM and maybe we can work out a trade; I'd love to add a 2011 to my vertical this winter.
