Was odd at ~50 degrees as the apples, cinnamon and vanilla were all coming through with the sulfur with no noticable barrel. As it got up to room temp the barrel flavor started coming in which helped reduce the sulfur taste. Not a drain pour but certainly affected. If you have one I would get to it soon.

Our tasting group opened one couple of weeks ago. It was a 5 paper towel gusher. Smelled like sulfur and cat sh!t. Tasted like apples, cinnamon and spice. Amazing how far the nose and taste were apart.
Deep into the tasting one guy who said it didn't smell bad, I told him to take a gigantic wiff of the bottle. He slightly gagged. We all audibly laughed.

Opened my (waxed) bottle on Monday night. No gusher, but after pouring a few glasses from the bottle, there was a noticeable foam backup inside the bottle. Definitely overcarbonated but luckily we didn't lose any beer.

I took the first pour into a Hill Farmstead glass; smelled like delicious apples and cinnamon, and tasted that way too. Other pours into different glassware smelled completely different but tasted the same. It was very strange. Smelling my glass side-by-side with the other glasses was night and day. Very, very strange.

Opened my first bottle tonight, over carbonated gusher, luckily no baby shit or sulfur smells. Smelled as you would expect from the description sans the brandy. Tasted very much cinnamon apple with a little barrel booziness, overall a good beer despite the over carbonation, got better as it cooled for sure.

Non-waxed, not left in hot car ( i feel this was a lot of peoples mistakes), refrigerated since purchase.

I opened my first one last night at a bottle share and it exploded all over the table. So yeah, definitely infected.

So has FB done anything about it, or is everyone that had a bad bottle out of luck? Just curious.

What was the deadline for the email? My friend sent them an email about our infected bottle sometime last month. No response.

I was told I could get a refund if I brought the bottles in by the end of Oct, sadly I live in Tampa and can't make it in time.

Unfortunately, I did not know about the infection issues in time and have yet to hear back from the brewery having emailed them over a month ago. Besides being upset with the lack of any response, they never announced the recall / reimbursement over any of their social media channels.

It has been an additional week and no response. At this point I doubt I'll hear anything. To the people who think JT is best to keep their mouth shut, you're looking it it wrong. They sold a bad bottle, it is not abusing generosity to ask for a refund. I spent $25 on a bottle that I poured down the drain because it was rancid. On top of that, the brewery made no mention of the issue and has been unresponsive to several attempts to contact them. Very professional.

I was at the bar this past Sunday and witnessed someone returning three bombers of this. I didn't ask for details as it didn't concern me.

Funky Buddha addressed this issue directly if you emailed them in the timeframe given they have sent out notice about a replacement so you cant wait almost 4 months after the deadline and expect them to reply to each person that claims they had an infected bottle. And since Funky Buddha only released bottles at the brewery on release day if you are not able to go to the brewery for the replacement you are SOL. I do not feel bad for anyone that missed the boat this was a huge issue months ago.....not so much now. I traded mine and informed the folks that got the bottles I sent out I would replace them maybe you contact the person you traded with?

Any idea when they are releasing the replacement bottles?

I purchased the bottles at the release as I travel to Ft Lauderdale for work regularly and will try going by on my next trip. As for why I didn't contact them in the appropiate timeframe, I guess you don't know what you don't know.

For what it's worth, my lone bottle of this was fantastic, one of the best beers I'd had all year. It had been refrigerated since the release, and tasted/smelled of little but pure apples and cinnamon, maybe a touch of baby powder aroma.

It was also quite undercarbonated, actually....contrary to all the reports of gushers I've heard. Feel like I got very lucky.

but you dont know what you dont know. How would you know that you needed to email them if you didnt know that there was something wrong with your bottles.

I guess this guys only recourse if they want to ignore him is just make sure to tell everyone that Funky Buddha sells infected bottles and doesnt respond when you ask them about it.

I'm not sure what more some of you want Buddha to do, at this point. The post that discussed the issue, from Ryan and FB, was made on their Faecebook page 4 MONTHS ago...

We’d like to take a moment to thank the community for writing us about your experiences with bottles of Barrel-Aged Muy Bonita. While many people did enjoy their bottles, it’s clear that a portion of the bottles we made exhibited spoilage characteristics. These traits (sulfurous aroma; excessive carbonation) appear to present themselves more readily in bottles that were stored warm instead of cold.

One thing we always strive for is to be completely proud of the products we release. Unfortunately due to these issues, we’re not proud of the end result with Muy Bonita bottles. If you opened a bottle that experienced these traits, please email us about it before the end of the month to [email protected]. If you have unopened bottles that you stored warm and don’t want to keep, we’ll be offering full refunds in our tap room effective immediately and running through the end of October. When you come in, we’ll also buy you a pint for your troubles.

We’re extremely sorry that this happened with our beer. We were super happy with the way it turned out before spoilage, which makes it hurt more to know that not everyone shared that same experience. Rest assured we will do all we can internally to ensure this doesn't happen again.

Thank you for supporting Funky Buddha Brewery, and continued cheers!

    The Funky Buddha Brewery Team

At some point, there is a time limit to trying to resolve such issues. Even the BA community tried to do their best, when the issue first appeared, and post 'careful, some issues with infection' on trades that had BA Muy for trade.

I'd be more agitated at the person that traded the bottles TO you, because I'm pretty sure most folks that bought the bottles locally, knew by now of the potential issues with them.

So because you missed that they are responsible for your lack of knowledge? If you bought a TV and there was a recall what would the company do 4 months after the deadline when you finally decide to attempt to do something about it? This issue was ALL over BA, twitter and facebook so if you were in hibernation its not their fault. They have contacted everyone that responded in a timely manner and have even told us what the replacement will be. If save 20+ people or even 100+ said hey man we didn't know about this I am certain the Buddha would respond but 1 guy the "missed" the info for 4 months should rightly be ignored, as they have the replacement beer to brew for those of us that responded
