    Would you go?
What would you expect to see (and keep it reasonable, breweries we already have access to. not RR, etc...)
Should it be big or small?
This is a big possibility in the near future and I would like to get some input on what would be expected from all 10 of you on BA that are from NM. Hahaha, jk, hopefully there is more of us then that. Well lets here it Burque!

Depends. On price. Size of pours. Who's running it. What breweries. Will there be new beers or things I could just get at the store. Are the folks running it looking to celebrate beer or make a ton of money.

I can't remember the last good festival in New Mexico and I have little faith in the folks that organize them.

Out of curiosity, what makes it a possibility and what hand would you have in it?

Also, aside from the Berliner Weisses produced by Tractor, Back Alley and Second Street, and the gose produced by La Cumbre, the only breweries that I can think of that have made sours are Marble, SFBC, Duel and IVC. I can't see a sour fest existing off of these limited offerings and I damn sure wouldn't pay to get someone to pour me an Odell Kriek (or anything else we get distributed) in a tiny sample cup.

I really like the idea of it. I know a few people who would likely show up, if it was quality stuff and well presented.

It would be me and one other guy setting it up, looking for a nice venue. I have Santa fe willing to bust out something from the archives, also a good possibility of seeing a love beer or leapold barrel sour from new Belgium, which have never been here. Definitely looking for one offs, new releases and stuff hard to find. not looking to make money, just put on a bad ass festival for Albuquerque!! How many beers would get you there? And what do you think is a reasonable price?

For the record, not against making money. I understand festivals are a business. But there seems to be much business and not enough love for good beer and New Mexico's beer lovers manifested in our local festivals.

The Leopold from NB sounds awesome. If you could get Dr. Acula or some other Odell, and other keg-only or limited, rare beers, that would be awesome. Also, there are breweries like Hanssen's, Birrificio del Ducato, Birra del Borgo, Oud Beersel that make great sours and show up in bottles and occasionally in kegs around ABQ/SF. You land some of those and I think I speak for many of our beer lovers in saying that would be a festival worth attending.

Particularly if pours are in these amounts.

As for price, that's very much contingent on a combination of the beers you land, the pour size, and the number of pours (more or less) that one can expect to get.

I would go for a Barrel aged, sour, and rare beer fest. I don't think there is that many sours to be had in NM. NB with the lips of faith beers and odell are the only constant sours in distro. For NM breweries Marble, SFBC, duel and maybe Bosque are the only ones with traditional sours. Any Gose's or Berliner's would be nice. An avery sour would be a great addition for your fest if you could pull that one off. Ask for a keg of one of the Emerita series sours as they do get kegged. Avery's other sours are in bottles only I believe. I hope this comes to fruition and is a successful event, NM can use a good fest.

I contacted Avery but apparently it is really hard to get their beers in town right now via the state right now. Since it would only be one keg or a couple of cases they are not willing to help this time around. Although he did say keep him posted on how this one goes and they would possibly be in on the next one once that gets fixed. There is a lot of sours to be had in New Mexico, I will find some madness and it will be awesome.

4! You could mark me down. What about somewhere at the Balloon Fiesta park or somewhere like that? I can think of at least a couple people that would make it. If you could get the brewers guild and/or the breweries themselves to promote, I imagine a couple hundred person turn out would be a possibility. Once there is an initial amount of interest, getting food trucks or other food vendors on board should be easy.

Take a note from Averys sour fest, have a station for water and tums or give out the antacid's at the door. The heart burn from the sours will creep up on ya.

haha, i went to What the Funk during GABF and not only was i one of like 5 people with a pretzel necklace but i had a bag of tums hanging from the middle, way too funny. I had people offering to buy them. There will definitely be water for glass rinsing and drinking.

Tart at Heart Sour and BA Brew Fest!!
April 11th @ Sister Bar, Downtown Albuquerque!!
    4pm - 8pm or later
Count on exclusive beers from Santa Fe Brewing, Stone, New Belgium, Marble, and many more!! We are trying to get at least 20 amazing and hard to find sours and barrel aged beers, hopefully at least 10 will be exclusive to the fest! It will be a smaller more informative fest unlike the other big fests that go on in Albuquerque. I will post more soon including ticket prices and where to get them.
    Cheers!
