Are they actually suing? Or was a cease and desist letter sent?

Update edit: wow, it looks like it was reported as a lawsuit. Hah. It also was reported that they dropped it immediately after the intense negative reaction.

There was actually a lawsuit, but it has since been dropped due to "losing in the court of public opinion."

It also said Tony Magee reached out to Ken Grossman twice but they could not amicably resolve it, or at least a resolution was not in hand after their discussions. So its not like the lawsuit came out of the blue.

This is monumental though - first time in history that 2 big craft brewers have prepared to go to court over something like this.

Plus @TheeWalrusHunter and I went off on a bit of a tangent there for second. That's something you'll have to get used to, if you're gonna hang around this forum very much. We often take 4 left turns just to keep going straight. Plus, ya might want to sharpen those Haiku skillz.

I'm more of an "lambic pentameter" man myself, although I appreciate some Basho style Zen haiku. :-)

We also accept Limerick, and there has been some discussion of including Klingon, but I don't think a consensus has yet been reached.

Lagunitas was on the receiving end of an even more asinine threat from Sweetwater regarding use of "420" in the description of their Waldo in 2013. Lagunitas at least wasn't challenging the use of "IPA", just that the lettering looked too similar to theirs. Still dumb, but not quite as bad as pretending you own "420" and that it can't even be mentioned on someone else's bottle.

RE: IPA's - I've been getting frustrated lately because every beer article on every non-beer website always has the same "IPA's are gross for bad people and they're all just super-hopped and bitter!" comments. I have no problem with anyone not liking IPA's, but a lot of people still cling to the stereotype of the "West Coast IPA" from like 5 years ago when there was too much talk about IBU's. Then I remember that I live in Portland and that even the worst bars will still almost always carry at least one of a half-dozen or so IPA's that you'll have a very difficult time finding outside Oregon yet see everyone here. And any staple IPA here would challenge the notions of those still stuck in 2009.

And I'm looking forward to trying the bengali! I spilled half a pint of the lump of coal on me at Victory Bar last Friday, but the other half was good. I'd tried at the the Holiday Ale Fest too, but that was a little late in the day to be tasting much.

Thank you! Flattered! Hope to catch up with you again, hopefully before hop harvest... but if not, drinking beers at Bale Breaker is not a bad place to meet up. I'm headed to the UK for a week in February (Brewing at Marston's), I'll empty some cans of Sixpoint at Wetherspoons while I'm there.

Right on man. Would love to stop by Baker City when you get back, if we can coordinate it.

I like that the ambiguity between the capital letter "I" and lower case "l" creates a (presumably) unintentional beer pun.

Since Beast Mode is being released in cans, does that mean Oregon will get some? I imagine it would sell like crazy in Seattle this time of year...

Now that you've sent me a "sample", I whole-heartedly concur. As I stated before, I liked it, but this time it's uniqueness really shone through. Probably the cleanest-finishing, crispiest (is that a word?) Big IPA I've ever had, without stinting on hop flavor. That hop flavor was unusual too, at least compared to all the West Coast IPAs available in my neck of the woods - maybe I just haven't had enough East Coast IPAs to judge! Next time I'm in Oregon I'll be looking to pick up more. Sure you don't want to distribute to Washington? Beast Mode sales alone would make it worthwhile right now!

@Sixpoint, as you fly over Bend, any chance you could just drop a few cans for me to retrieve? @distantmantra was kind enough to share a Global Warmer, but I want to try more of your lineup and don't make it over to Portland. Cheers!

Would have to check in with the good folks at Delta airlines about that. And of course do some calculus style equations to figure out when to release the cargo, with the perfect trajectory, in order for that six-pack of cans to land right at your front door...might need a parachute on it as well....perhaps use a drone?

Any word about the "super blind tasting" alluded to earlier? The tap take over I'm sure will be fun, but it's that "super blind tasting" that piqued my interest. :-)

I'm assuming the tap take over and the "tasting" are not going to be the same events.
