When any bottle is traded and shipped, shouldn't the "good business" to back your product become void? Once someone ships me s beer and it seams off or infected, I can't help think the heat/cold, cap leakage from shaking, was it a regular trader who cellars properly versus a first time trader who stores their beer like crap, etc.. plays a major roll.

I would hate to feel entitled when just standard trading practices could be part of the problem. I would just take care of the locals. If it was found out a local traded to get back a bottle to leverage to get BA Snowed in, us locals should get together and convince the scumbag to move far far away.

Absolutely No one should be trading bottles to profit on them at this point that's just lame. I agree 100% with you on that. One thing I would note though is a bottle that is only around eight months old is infected. It is not the shipping process. Moreover, when many locals were the first to notice the infection it clearly informs the brewery that this is an infection and not a case of poor handling or shipping conditions. Infections don't just appear because of poor mailing conditions, they may taste horrible, oxidized, or what not, but it is not going to cause the bottle to be "infected". Look at the way cycle handled their Rare DOS infection, they acknowledged the problem and even made it good for folks that received bottles in trade. Other breweries have done this as well. This helps protect your name and image, and it's good customer service. That being said they also put a time limit on it and I do think that is fair particularly considering that Cycle's were growlers. I think the issue here for some is that they would have liked to of seen FB get back and simply say," sorry you missed the deadline hey here are some stickers and a shirt thanks for your support". And many have pointed out that FB has very good customer service, it just seems that for a few individuals something happened and they didn't get back to them. Just my thoughts. My real point here is that bottles don't become "infected" from shipping practices. Of course heat will rapidly speed up an already infected bottle, but it doesn't cause one.

There were quite a few folks who had extra MBCP bracelets, from trading their Muy bottles in. I'd say FB was pretty lenient on the whole issue.

doesnt really change anything. Still need to stand behind their product? They know the range on infected bottles so they should be prepared for all of them to walk back in the door.

If the 6 bottles are unopened I'm sure they would. But 6 empties with an explanation that they were all crap...I would hope not.

I definitely hear you on this and agree all businesses must be good communicators to provide good customer service. The shipping point I was trying to make is, from my experience, not all the bottles were bad. Some of the duds could have been caused by other variables. Unless we knew the vast majority of bottles were infected, how can we hold the brewery responsible for all the bottles? For the locals, it was easy as Funky Buddha used the honor system. For the most part, I believe most people wouldn't take advantage of their own local brewery (note, I said most, not all). I may be wrong but my gut tells me people outside the area would not hold these same values for FB.

If someone early on had an issue with their traded bottle, they should have reached out and have the local advocate for them. Likewise, once us locals knew there was an issue, we should have reached out to those we sent to. When you have so much said long after the fact, I become suspect.

I still think anyone who is not local and claiming foul with their empty bottle now should be SOL. I hope if it's a local, FB would still at least hear them out. The only sure thing is those with unopened bottles or sent an email prior to the deadline.

So much for the "Honor" system that is very disappointing as I know who one guy is but the other I do not

I thought there was nothing to be done if arrangements were not made before the end of October:

One thing we always strive for is to be completely proud of the products we release. Unfortunately due to these issues, we’re not proud of the end result with Muy Bonita bottles. If you opened a bottle that experienced these traits, please email us about it before the end of the month to [email protected]. If you have unopened bottles that you stored warm and don’t want to keep, we’ll be offering full refunds in our tap room effective immediately and running through the end of October. When you come in, we’ll also buy you a pint for your troubles.

These posts for ISO: Infected BA Muy where not made until Dec 11th. That was well after the cut off.

Ah. makes sense. So those with opened bottles are out of luck at this point but anyone with a sealed bottle is still okay to go in person and get squared away. Better than nothing.

Just for starters, this is beyond "Gaming the System".

Sept 5, in this post, it was shared that Ryan from Funky Buddha invited anyone with issues to email him. Everyone is now put on notice. A good trader/person would contact anyone they sent this beer to make sure it was ok. YOU could have been an advocate for your buds.

Twice in September, Ryan emails updates and very nicely says they will back their beer. He asked people to try it by the end of Sept and if there's a problem, they will replace with the next BA beer (honor system). In another email after, if anyone had an unopened bottle, return it to the brewery by the end of October for a full refund.

Fast forward to now. At this point, anyone who received a Muy knows about this post and all the things they needed to do. If they didn't do anything, tough shit; were grown fucking adults.

Then there's a new twist. Known to some but not to all, FB will replace unopened bottles. I applaud them for going the extra step to hopefully protect locals, who bought the beer for their own consumption, but are not on Beer Advocate to be educated on what to do. Again, a great customer service thing to do.

Now here's the crappy part. Let's reach out to those on Beer Advocate who knew what to do, were too lazy to do it or didn't care, and get their bottles so we can profit from those guys at the brewery who have been very very good to us. That's the part I'm pissed about.

The fact that people are taking advantage of FBs generosity is very disheartening. The two bottles that I got of this beer were sent to two regular trading partners of mine. One tried it and loved the beer and the other had to sit on the bottle for a little while bc of having a new baby. It sat a little too long and wasn't really up to par. He messaged me about it and bc it was past the due date I sent him a bunch of CCB and Cycle stuff to make up for it instead of bothering FB. I believed that to be the honorable thing to do. They've been pretty good to the Founders members and this second year has been much better than the first.

However you want to try and justify your behavior by trading for infected bottles, it is still gaming the system and this is a major issue in the craft beer community. If you are involved in this activity you are very much a part of the problem and you are making a bad name for honest traders.
