They really do at those brewdog bars. You wouldn't really see that at a normal pub (at least I haven't) where it would be full or half pints, but they make sense for the high ABV styles they serve there

The prices definitely get up there, especially for high ABV stuff. Depending on the bar, this is why I tend to stick to flights and/or sessionable/lower-ABV styles when I go out. Last night for example I was able to have 12 2oz pours (two flights of 6) plus 2 pints of a good oatmeal stout and a meal and keep it under $40, which to me isn't too bad. I got to taste the high ABV things without having to spend $10 for a pint of scotch ale etc.

People going out to the pub in UK is really declining in regards to your "normal" drinker, a pint of Stella Artois or Guinness
In a regular local pub is around £3.50 now where as in shops I've seen them both the equivalent of £1 a pint. The government allows supermarkets (like Wallmart) sell alcohol at a loss which unfortunately is killing the pub trade.

In the UK a pint is 568ml = 16.4fl oz. Most "craft" bars will sell beer in 1/3 1/2 2/3 and full pints. Most regular pubs sell halves and full pints only. Until recently it was actually illegal in the UK to sell anything on tap other than halves or full pints! The 1/3s I had were part of a tasting flight apart from the Wee Heavy which I was given as the keg was getting changed and that was the last of it, pays to be a regular cuz that was about the equivalent of $5 of a beer I really like!

Wow, the differential has increased dramatically. Looks like going out for a pint is being killed off everywhere :slight_frown:

Ahh I see - but that's keg lagers. Is cask not still cheaper? I was at the Guildford Arms in Edinburgh recently and I could swear it was less than 3 quid a pint

This is an insane thread. You want expensive? Start drinking wine. Excellent craft beer is still far less expensive than fine wine or spirits. Of course going to a bar and buying a lot of limited release beers is expensive. Going to a bar and buying a bottle of fine wine or several glasses of excellent whiskey is also expensive.
These days you can go to most grocery stores and pay $10 of a six-pack of excellent beer. Complaining about the price of BCS or any other rare beers is like complaining about the price of a 20 year old Glenlivet or a 2010 Stag's Leap Cabernet. The craft beer trend has made good beer much more widely available while creating a market for excellent and expensive beer. Me and a couple friends went through most of Stone's mixed 12 pack and it only cost $19. And all the beer was excellent.

Guildford does guest cask for about £3 yeah, which is very cheap for Edinburgh and the Guildford, I was close to £4 for an average British keg porter last month when I was in there. Generally though cask is about the same as a regular lager or ale of equivalent strength. I am not a fan of cask ales at all though.

I wish I could keep it to about $100 per month. That's only like $3 a day. I'd say for me it's about 3-4 times that.

Sometimes I try to justify the high price of take out bottles/cans by imagining how much it would all cost if I were out at bars. I mean, I'm not spending THAT much more on overpriced bourbon-barrel aged beers than somebody who goes out a couple nights a week and racks up a $80 bar tab, right?!?

I don't like that they cost so much but I still buy them because they taste sooooo good.
However, having been in Germany since last summer and seeing the prices over here kind of makes me a little frustrated. Yes there are cheap, "okay", run of the mill pilsners that cost 0.40-0.50 euro but there are all kinds of fantastic smaller breweries and even American style craft breweries cranking out small batches for 1.50-2.00 a bottle. Schneider Weisse and Weihenstephaner are real cheap too. I'm not talking about importation costs because I'm comparing German beer in Germany to American beer in America.
Having said this, I would still pay by $15 for a 4 pack of FIS any day

I generally don't go out to bars. If I do, it's to try something tap-only/rare-ish, or if I'm with friends. Even then, I'll stop myself at a couple beers. Prices are high, but I just work around them.

Craft Beer is quite expensive when compared to macro brews but I don't mind spending the extra money when I'm getting something I know is of a greater quality. That being said, when I go out to an establishment that serves craft brews, I typically only have one or two pints based on the fact that they average around $10.00 each :slight_frown:

I think it is awesome when some BA's complain about "another price thread"...yet still feel compelled to post/contribute to the entity they rail against....

Gotta love the 1st Amendment....in totality....

    Much respect to all...Cheers

No. I have always believed in spending as much as I could afford. While I do not make an abundance of money, I am carefree with how I spend.

I would be very happy to see a correction to overpriced beers. Lucky for me Sierra Nevada is a long time fav.

Who cares about people complaining about prices. Since when is beer some holy thing that thou shall not criticize?

Several breweries are way overpriced. FFF, Ballast Point, Founders.....

Oh no, I spoke ill of some highly regarded breweries.
