Some phenolic compounds are said to taste the way band aids smell. They can be released in really aggressive Belgian ale yeasts, sometimes brettanomyces, and peat-smoked malt. To be honest I've only ever picked it up in two beers and never in Scotch, no matter how peated it was.

Well Avery considers it an Old Ale from everything I've read.

Most band-aid taste I ever got that was good was in a bottle of 10 year Laphroaig. Peat, phenol, earthy medicine! To lesser degrees in a few beers.

I get the medicinal flavor for sure. I totally agree with Laphoaig! It is very iodine forward and smokey and peaty. If you have had Lagavulin it is even more so that way. I guess the band aid thing people are talking about is the Betadine/Iodine flavor I detect and most scotch people think of as a positive note. I don't think its a positive note. I tend to like my scotches to be more floral and honey forward, like Glenmorangie and Macallan. I get it, but I hate the use of band aid as a description. There are better ways of describing that note in my opinion. As far as beers go. I have not encountered that note really. But I have heard it a lot lately. Haha!

    Top 5 I've Ever Had:
    Great
    King Henry
    MOAS 2012(in 2013)
    Hammerhead 2012(in 2013)
    Sucaba @ 1 year

Really tough to do a top 5 as vintage and production play into it so much.

    Top easily Attainable:
    Sucaba
    CW BBBW
    Cockeyed Cooper
    BCBBW

An newcomer is the Brooklyn Hand and Seal. Really hoping that one develops nicely as it is strong out of the gate.

Edit-Missed Blighs, BA Cereal Killer, and BA Naked Evil as strong contenders in the top 5

I'm looking forward to seeing how it ages. I've got a couple of bottles left from the 2014 release that I'm "laying down".
